Workington Parkrun - 19:02

Ha! Most definitely faster than Joe now.

Kms:
3.42, 47, 51, 56, 44

Looking at the Kms from today and last time it's the same pattern: fast for the first, getting slower for the 3rd and 4th, and then another fast one. So just need to work on getting those 3rd and 4th splits faster and then I'm onto an 18:40.

TioMila 2018 - Leg 7

No expectations at all for this race so just wanted to get out there and have a good run. Given that we'd had 2 mispunches and 1 retirement before I'd gone out I decided that there was no point in racing it so just took it easy and tried to go straight where ever possible.

Everything was good to 1, rather hesitant to 2 but no mistake. Didn't know what I was doing to 4 but caught/got caught by someone else on my course so just followed him from the edge of the circle in. Took the easy path route to 45 but drifted slightly to the right because of the contours. 6 was my first proper mistake, everything was fine up until the circle where I misread the control description and thought it was on the crag but it was actually in the reentrant. So wasted about 5 minutes not knowing where the control was, until I decided to drop down to the open area and relocate from there. 7 was my main mistake. Again everything was fine up until the circle, looking at my route I came to within 10m of the control and then ran off. Joined up with some Swedish guy who was looking for the same control. We went round a couple of different areas before he disappeared and I decided to relocate off the open area to the west (I only decided to go to there then because it was quite far away from the control). Once I'd got to the open area went back in making sure I was always in contact with the map and found it perfectly. Another mistake in the circle on 8 but not as major. Took the path route to it because I was annoyed at my mistake to 7 and decided to go an easier way. Got to the attackpoint fine, but then made a parallel error and thought I was on the knoll next to the control but actually was just north-east of it. Had a quick glance up and spotted it. Visited all of the drinks stations in the way to 9 but the 2nd station had warm water which want very nice. Fine into 9. Took another path route to 10 but was very slow in the terrain. Stupid, stupid mistake to 11. Wasn't concentrating and hit the path and instead of working out whereabouts along it I was just started running along I until I got to the larger one and was somehow surprised that I'd ended up that far. 11 to the finish was near enough all on paths so very easy. Absolutely dead at the finish and just lay down for a bit.

Overall a very useful weekend and amazing experience in technical terrain that's nothing like what we have in Cumbria.
