Saturday Apr 14

Event: Lännasprinten, Middle Distance

run warm up/down 15:00 [3]
orienteering race 44:40 [4]*** 4.1 km (10:54 / km)
shoes: VJ Twisters
Big mistakes on 12 and 13... and probably 11 too. Before that, I felt like I had good concentration and was reading the map well. I've just got to keep that focus all the way through. I want to keep focussing on seeing the features and visualizing the map because I definitely run faster when I'm confident.

I was running in 14th place after 9 controls and was still in 16th after 11...but ended up in 28th. Now I need to be able to hold concentration throughout the course. My best leg was 7-8 where I did feel quite under control with a good visual image of where I was heading. Other good news is that I did the 'long' leg well (it wasn't very long, but it's not a bad place to start).

Thursday Apr 12

biking 1:30:00 [2]
The left hamstring is still unhappy so I decided to bike rather than run. I hate missing club tranings.

So, just a chill bike ride up to Gamla Uppsala (my first time there... I like Kung Björns Hög better) and then down the river, past MIC, through stadskogen, and back home. It was a beautiful day today!
circuits 35:00 [1]
I can remember all but one of the ones that we did with the club in the winter...

Wednesday Apr 11

Swim 55:00 [3]
500 warm up

100 IM, 100 fly/back... breast stroke was making my hamstring or nerve or whatever it is hurt so I decided to stick with freestyle.

2x through:
100, 200, 300, 200, 100 free... on the 1:30 goal pace per 100 with 30 seconds rest. I was typically swimming closer to a 1:35 pace but it was still a good workout.
Note
Yay for new orthotics... got the old ones fixed a bit and got a new pair just for walking around in (too thick for o'shoes).

Tuesday Apr 10

run warm up/down 45:00 [3]
Running through stadskogen to the track and back.
run intervals 11:00 [5]
6 400's with a minute rest inbetween. I felt aweful on the third one and bailed to stretch for a little while (skipping the next one). The first two felt quite good and then I finished with three more that were ok.

I promise to never eat again an hour before running intervals. And I need to stretch (even) more before/after running.
high knees etc. 11:00 [3]
Note
Anybody have any favorite online resources for running-related injuries?
Just curious.

In other news, I am getting my orthotics refitted tomorrow and also getting a different, softer, pair for normal walking around (which will be too thick for the orienteering shoes). I miss being invincible.
C • Good luck with the orthotics. ... 1
circuits 40:00 [1]
Circuits happen after intervals:) Did them at home since it's not winter so we don't do them with the club anymore. Good times. Lots of stretching after too.

Sunday Apr 8

orienteering race 57:07 [4]***
shoes: VJ Twisters
Pretty good navigating except for a mistake on the last control. Also some problems going straight on the long legs. The course was pretty easy and very fast... So, lots of trying to navigate fast.

Also I'm furious that cheating is accepted, especially even in at the elite level of orienteering. Today *** a top 150 ranked orienteer*** (edited because the rankings change and somehow I feel like I shouldn't be saying who it is anyway) in Sweden interrupted my course and my focus to ask me where the control was. It makes me so angry. How can we take ourselves seriously as a sport when nobody is even surprised that a D21L, the most elite course offered, runner would ask where she is? And where is her sense of pride?
