Hill Walking 2:45:00 [1] **
ahr:114 max:186 rhr:53 slept:7.0 shoes: Off Road Sauconys

Walk from Hayfield up to Kinder downfall, along the top and back. Pretty warm, legs really sore by the end - haven't walked for ages!

Running 35:15 [2] 5.5 km (6:25 / km)
ahr:176 max:194 rhr:46 slept:9.0 (sick) shoes: Off Road Sauconys

Easyish run to try and see how I felt after not running for two weeks. Answer: not as bad as I expected, legs stiff, bit out of breath on the hills but felt better post run than when I got up this morning. Walk tomorrow, then will run again on Friday I think.

Cycling 1:58:00 [3]
shoes: Road Sauconys

Cycle back from Jakobsberg to Flemingsberg - pretty fast, better route, nice cycle.

Cycling 2:33:00 [4]
shoes: Road Sauconys

Cycled to Palmis's from Flemingsberg! Total mission navigating only by cycleway signs on my very heavy bike. Got lost a few times and totally knackered by the timeI arrived - maybe overdid it a little.

Orienteering race 1:11:00 [4] **** 8.4 km (8:27 / km)
ahr:174 max:191 shoes: Integrators

Test ran a course for the JOK competition in a few weeks and was really good. Difficult to spike dot knolls in green, especially when you're looking for tags and not controls, but otherwise moving confidently into the centre of the circle, picking good route choices and feeling a lot better about my skills than I did back in the Baltics! Legs still stiff but hardly that surprising.

Cycling 1:11:00 [2]
ahr:112 max:142 shoes: Road Sauconys

Easy cycle to try and get rid of some of the lactate. Pissing it down with warm rain the whole time, lovely an refreshing after being stifled in Lithuania for the last week!

Orienteering race 59:56 [5] **** 8.7 km (6:53 / km)
spiked:18/20c shoes: Integrators

Should have been the best day, absolutely beautiful area, but was the hottest yet and my legs had nothing at all in them. I could see exactly where I needed to go, just struggled to get there! One dumb error at the end just to pure exhaustion and no confidence, but an fantastic experience. I want to come back to Lithuania with fresh legs!

Orienteering race 43:33 [4] ***** 4.7 km (9:16 / km) +190m 7:42 / km
spiked:8/16c shoes: Integrators

Argh! Was racing a bit messily, tired but no real mistakes until the spectator when I realised I was up on two of our GTBR lads, then promptly lost four minutes on a ridiculously easy control by following an elephant track. Not cool at all, eventually relocated on a huge clearing after a nice 600m circle away from the control. D'oh. I blame the heat!

Orienteering race 41:46 [5] ***** 5.3 km (7:53 / km)
spiked:12/17c shoes: Integrators

Think I'm finally getting the hang of these middles races! A couple of silly errors but ran well, visualising well, another beautiful area.

Orienteering race 1:21:23 [4] ***** 7.8 km (10:26 / km) +180m 9:21 / km
spiked:7/16c shoes: Integrators

Eurgh. WRE Classic day 2. Scorchingly hot and no drinks until 1.5km from the end. Totally died very early, no confidence, messing around everywhere. Not good fun at all.

Orienteering race 47:41 [5] ***** 5.94 km (8:02 / km) +150m 7:08 / km
spiked:12/15c shoes: Integrators

First day of Takas - a couple of errors but running hard, still feeling off the pace though, legs not quite loose and free! Beautiful forest though.

Note
(rest day)

Travelling to JWOC in Lithuania, well deserved rest after the toughest three days of my life!

Sunday Jul 2, 2006 #

Orienteering race 1:08:24 [4] **** 7.3 km (9:22 / km)
spiked:9/15c shoes: Integrators

Best result of the week, finally felt I was learning to speak the map's language and no big errors, so finally broke the 10min/km barrier! Still couldn't find that extra gear on the tracks though, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise as I generally got it right.

Orienteering race 1:25:47 [4] ***** 8.4 km (10:13 / km) +230m 8:59 / km
spiked:9/17c shoes: Integrators

Slightly nicer area today but hillier and in the heat just had no energy at all. Slightly more confident with the controls but by the end all over the place, legs dead and struggling to think straight. Not nice.
