Cycle home from work, via a short visit with my favourite one year old to wish him a Happy Birthday. Livingston Street was totally rammed with trick or treaters, most of them adorable. Then cycled the rest of the way, up Farnam Drive which was pitch black, and back to our neighbourhood, where we met the Mayor and his adorable Harry Potter son. The drag up by East Rock is actually pretty tough in this direction - now I know why I go home the other way! Plus there are street lights there.

We still have way too much "chocolate". We definitely missed the Trick or Treat peak.

Run into work. Felt pretty stiff after the last couple of day's workouts, but it was still glorious out there. Not much to report, jumped onto a blue when I felt a bit tired.

Into work. Things still looking glorious. Drivers need to learn that they have these things called indicators, and that doing something incredibly slowly is no substitute for just indicating your intention.

Just went to the stockroom and passed a small child marvelling at the fountain in the hospital. He thought it was the best thing he'd ever seen, and it was very cute.

Really fun workout tonight. 3RM deadlifts, some DB rows, and then 6 90 secs AMRAPs cycling through deadlifts, knees to elbows and double unders. I lost my double unders completely in round 5 and spent a very frustrating 90 seconds only getting 19 of them. Still a lot of fun though!

Cycled in but only made it halfway home before something slipped in my front brake again and I was cycling against the brake pads. I was very tired anyway so Rob picked me up. Think I have now fixed the issue after a bit of time spent in the garage with youtube, though my brake cable is a bit flattened and I think it might be pulling free. Probably needs replacing. They probably should have done that on my "total bike service."

I like fixing things.

Alex and I had a gossip orienteer around the red at Huntington. It was a glorious day and the company was even more glorious. Good times.

My legs hurt climbing up the stairs at work afterwards, to find that my mice were not yet ready and I could have had that coffee after all :)

The cats formerly known as Devil Cats make it very tough to leave the house these days. They are insanely cute and nice to me. I currently have Rosie on my lap and Clem guarding my right flank. Both purring like crazy. They're still not quite sure of Rob, but he's getting there.

I'm sure the arrival of acjospe on Friday will result in some of their former devilry!

Facing a day of hell today and so made the most of the sunshine and warmth by running into my two hour "effective teaching" class. Today it was not very effective. Then the mouse babies were ready so I prepped neurons in our tissue culture room, which is happily over 30oC again as they switched on the heating a couple of days early. That took nearly three hours. Then a two hour meeting, then rush through my IP, set the Western going, sprint across town to Bentara for George's lab leaving do (actual sprint in trainers plus dress win), then back to the lab for another three hours or so. Joy! Rob won't let me watch the Walking Dead to fill the transfer time in case I don't sleep tonight. He's probably right to do so.

If only people would e mail me about what training they want to do this weekend, then I could use the time to plan that. Hint hint? Anyone?

Into work only. The bike was so horribly squeaky and my mouse pregnancy timing was off, so I took the time I suddenly had free this afternoon to drop my bike back at Zane's for a free tune up. It'll be back in a couple of days.

Lovely afternoon in the garden getting ready for the first frost. Pulled a load of plants (finally, no more tomatoes. I feel like I am going to turn into a tomato), raked the first of the leaves, tidied up the garage and brought some herbs I'm hoping to overwinter inside. The marigolds are still going strong, with a whole host of bees on them. Another lovely afternoon. But the cold is coming...

Anyone seen any over winter onion sets on sale in CT? It's a bit late, but the ground won't be unworkable for a week or so yet. Or online suggestions - most seem to ship in spring only.

A rerun of the open workout 13.2. Used 53# the the Rx 20 inch box. Harder than I thought. Ten mins, 6 rounds exactly. Slow on the box jumps, don't think those burpee pull ups helped that! Great to get something in, was feeling a bit peaky last night but good sleep seems to have vanquished that.

Ran slightly further today. Achilles and things tough at the start after all the jumping yesterday, but much improved by the end. Despite a pretty heavy rucksac, almost felt good!

Looking forward to running on Tuesdays too now our CSA is over for the season. It has been fun but I don't think we'll do it again - too many greens and not enough fun veg.

Eep! Some tough ring rows followed by 100 burpee pull ups. It became apparent very quickly that 100 burpee pull ups would have taken me most of the day, so I grabbed a 45# plate and went for burpee hop skip jumps launch myself at the bar from the plate into a jumping pull up. That was still really hard but do-able. I was really happy when Mo cut us off at 15 minutes. 75 in total.

Much more fun than failing at snatches.

Wow, I have sat in a darkened room for far too long this weekend. Who organizes weekend conferences with talks all day on a beautiful weekend? I can see the Rockies bathed in sunshine when I walk to the bathroom, and it sucks! Back to denver airport again in an hour. I am only going to keystone conferences from now on!

Recovery day at Cross Fit. Pull ups, sit ups, BB rows and ball slams with plenty of rest. I am now awesome at pull ups (for me) and can deadlift over 200 pounds, but unfortunately I just tried on the clothes to pack for the conference I fly to at silly o' clock tomorrow and I can't get them over my bum or shoulders because there are new big muscles there. Had to rush out to Target at 9.55pm to buy an entire new conference wardrobe. Disaster!

It feels very strange to be packing carry on only with no exercise gear or sensible footwear. It might snow in Denver tomorrow.

Cross Fit total! Finally got to back squatting more than my body weight, and also PRed my deadlift. Could have probably got slightly higher on the back squat, but we ran out of time because I was spotting other people doing a 5 x 5 back squat workout. It's a fun session to do - I beat my score by 60 from this time last year (you add your weights from back squat, shoulder press and deadlift). 424 now!
