Note

Our new Team at MGH is doing the Walk to End Alzheimer's. It's run by an excellent charity that provides care to people with the disease, and funds a huge amount of excellent research across the USA. Recovery run towards the Hormel Stadium in Medford, where I'm volunteering at a back to running course for people who've had a traumatic brain injury. It was fun, and nice to do something a bit different. Running was sticky and grim, and this week is only going to get worse.

Spent a fun final day and a half post conference in Chicago with Rob and Bianca. We all got different flights home and I picked the worst - delayed by the storms and ended up not back in Boston till 2am Saturday. Pretty much vegged all weekend and it was really nice.

I like Chicago! It was stuffy rainy and grey today but the city is so vibrant and the architecture is beautiful! Had a terrible start to the day as the United terminal was packed in Boston and I almost missed my flight. Didn't get to eat till Chicago which was not good. But luckily, Chicago is fun! Ran along the river walk which was packed with people, and my GPS trace could not cope with being tucked in amongst the buildings! I did not start there run on water.
Conference proper starts tomorrow - going to sleep a lot more tonight than last night I hope...

"Long" run towards the gym. Stomach has been iffy the last couple of days but it held up while I was running, which I think means this run was better than anticipated. Boston is not good for loo opportunities - round New Haven you're never too far from a building you have ID access to! And New Haven was better at putting portaloos in public parks all summer. Not much of that round here. Won't someone think of the runners?! :)

Finally pushed through to a new gym block - this one looks more fun than the last! Reverse lunges killed my bum - going to be DOMs tomorrow for sure. The gym is nice and quiet at 8am.

4 x 90 (30s) in a mega storm! Was counting the whole way to check the storm wasn't too close, but turn out they move much faster here than back at home. One minute the bangs were three miles away, the next the sky went completely pink and big fork came down very close - the noise sounded like a Tesla Coil spark rather than a boom. It was pretty fun but after that I made sure to run under things much taller than me. Ran through some very deep puddles and it's insane how warm the water in them was. This was the most fun I've had out running in a while.

Really busy week at work this week. We have a bunch of new staff starting (who it turns out are all exceptionally capable and really fun to work with) so I was in supervisor mode all week, except for today when I spent 11 hours preparing 100 brain samples for proteomics. It was exceptionally boring and repetitive and I couldn't face getting up and having to start again on Friday, so I worked late and finished it in one. Hopefully the data in a few months will be super exciting!

Drove to Montreal for the weekend for the wedding of an old Yale colleague. It was really fun and Steph came too which was fab, but very long drives. Immigration were not nice on the way back in. Montreal seems like a cool place to live - loved the restaurants and cafes we visited, and my A level French just about gets me by. I hear in winter it snows twice as much as Boston. This may be a negative.

I was tired and too hot all week after this. Worth it though.
