Running 1:15:28 [3] **
ahr:156 max:181 rhr:44 slept:10.0 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

What a session! Arrived in Rome in the gorgeous sunshine with about three hours of daylight remaining (and we all know about Italian men after dark) so I got on my kit and set off for a sightseeing run around town. Took in the large park to the north of all the attractions, then down to the roman ruins around the Collesseum, up to the Patheon, through a few pizazzas and ending up in front of Vatican City. An amazing place with so many things to look at - will have to spend more time here (and with company!) at some point in the not too distant future.

Note
(rest day)

A huge amount of travelling that began with leaving edinburgh at 2am! Was tired and still feeling a bit sniffly so stuck to walking around Pisa ' walked for a good 4 hours or so and it was luverly in the early spring sunshine.

HR still lowish today but still feel throat all scratchy, no nasty white spots or anything, but skipped the gym and resting again to be sure.

Didn't think it was possible for the wind to be any worse than last night, but this morning proved me wrong! Grotty as hell, was having to fight even to go downhill! Bleurgh!

Cycling 15:46 [2]
ahr:129 max:163

Cycling back to the gym, wind has finally died down!

Strength 39:28 [3]
ahr:114 max:160

Decided I actually didn't feel too bad after all and did a quick session at the gym just to remind my legs etc what weight bearing feels like. Nothing too serious, simply:

Back squats 60kg 3 x 5
OH BB Press 25kg 3 x 5
Push press behind neck 30kg 3 x 5
Bent over row 40kg 3 x 5
Leg raises L, R, OH 3 x 3
Sit ups 5kg weight OH 3 x 10

Cycling 5:27 [2]
ahr:136 max:154

Cycle home.

Note
(rest day)

Today I feel tired and rubbish, so am sacking in training for an night in with plenty of vitamins and Christian Bale. HR is fine when sitting so hopefully just tired.

Cycling 18:31 [2]
ahr:124 max:152 (rest day)

Cycling into work, a little blustery!

Cycling 25:35 [3]
ahr:116 max:151 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Woah, from a bit blustery to full on gales! Could barely move along Clerk Street and was wobbling all over the road. Eep!

Cycling 12:25 [3]
ahr:95 max:135

A few errands around town, still barely moving in the face of the wind.

Cycling 15:39 [2]
ahr:129 max:160 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Cycle to work - first half was beautiful, everything green, but then lost it past Princes Street - stopped everywhere. Booo!

Cycling 22:07 [2]

Cycling to the gym and home.

Circuits 1:07:57 [3]
ahr:118 max:176 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Came back from the month to many rows of hurdles and a cheeky promise from Steve of some good quality plyometrics. Started out on the small plastic hurdles but they were fine, and moved onto the proper hurdles. Think they were on the smallest height but it was continual jumping over proper hurdles interspersed with small plastic ones - pretty high intensity but I managed with some really good height and style, yey! Then moved onto some single leg work back on the plastic hurdles, and finished off with low weight arm and core "endurance" stuff. Good to be back!

Running 34:43 [4]
ahr:166 max:185 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

A bit of a naughty run without much of a purpose. I was by myself so had no one to gossip to, and probably ran too fast for recovery but not fast enough for it to be any kind of quality threshold/tempo style session. I enjoyed it a lot but it was a bit of an aimless session in the style of the rubbish Haries, and no one wants to do too many of them.

Cycling into work and back.

Warm up & strides 12:00 [3]
ahr:139 max:171 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Warm up and old school strides before wimpy intervals.

Intervals 10:23 [5] 3.2 km (3:15 / km)
ahr:174 max:194 slept:7.0 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

After a slightly restness night's sleep thanks to someone's post Amsterdam blow out snoring I felt a bit rubbish today, and my stomach was also feelinglike some kind of iron band was squishing it. I had finished work by 4.30 and decided just to get out there as if I went home and faffed I'd never make it, and wasn't really up for running worse than I last had with the Haries. So I did my favourite session, a quick 200, 400, 600, 800, 600, 400, 200 pyramid, all with a good 90 seconds rest between. Times were slow but not uber slow, in fact better than I was expecting and more hindered by stomach , which was dreadful by the 800, than by legs/lungs - would never have managed 6 800s with it. It's always like this after a break so I wasn't too concerned. Times:

0.32, 1.16, 2.02, 2.38, 2.03, 1.19, 0.35

Recovery 13:58 [3]
ahr:151 max:164 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Rest between intervals and short jog home.

Note

Yey! Doctor says run but definitely no naughty business until it's all healed up. I can live with that. Oh yes I can. Time for a celebratory "recovery" run.

Recovery 52:13 [3]
ahr:159 max:183 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Whoo hoo! Actual real life running. Met up with Kir for a quick banter round the Meadows, and felt ace. My legs are a bit heavy but they move, and my stomach was like woah, you;'re not making me do this again are you? but it was so good to be out on a beautiful evening, everything bathed in a lovely yellow light. Awesome.
