Recovery 30:24 [2]
ahr:139 max:148 shoes: Blue Saucony Grid

Rubbish recovery run in Pisa - tried to get to the sea but there was only a main road to run on because of the Italians and their ridiculous division of every tiny space of land, lots of fences and dogs and no paths. Legs felt a bit better though, so that was good.

Warm up & strides 15:00 [3]
ahr:141 max:164 shoes: Integrators

Warm up before the middle - thought stomach was going to be okay.

Orienteering 32:50 [4] *** 4.6 km (7:08 / km)

But was sadly wrong - stomach was dreadful and just concentrate at all. The area was rubbish, totally flat with a few paths and lots of random veg, and you needed to be really accurate with compass and attack points, and I totally wasn't. I retired in my head three times, actually starting to walk back on the way to number 7 then changing my mind and carrying on - the walk settled my stomach a little and the end was a little better. Thoroughly depressing again - I was really fed up.

Warm up & strides 19:43 [3]
ahr:123 max:157 shoes: Integrators

Warm up and rubbish strides before Classic Distance as stomach was poor.

Orienteering 1:09:55 [3] ***** 7.2 km (9:43 / km)

Bleurgh. WRE Classic at Pineta Di Lenne. Was quite excited after yesterday's beautiful forest, but as with typical mediterranean areas most of the race was in thick, spiky bushy stuff and really hard going. My stomach was JK last year style uncomfortable and my legs felt like lead. I had no fight in me at all and so totally let the area beat me - I didn't make anything I would actually class as a proper mistake but I wasted a huge amount of time faffing and hesitating and going round things I should have been shoving through. Really disappointing, the worst race I've had in a long time.

Sprint race in Matera. Had a really awesome second half of the race but unfortunately the race was cut off halfway,as the map exchange wasn;t actually there when some of the girls got to it. So then I dropped down the results loads due to a poor route choice early on. Boo. Felt in control and flowing well, even if legs felt awful!

Warm up & strides 23:56 [2]
ahr:147 max:170

Warm up and down around the sprint.

Training on Pineta di Chiatona - nice flow, legs tired but feeling strong and planning ahead, taking good lines. Beautiful area.

"sprint" around Matera. Unfortunatelty we just had rubbish computer JPEG printed maps that were tiny and clear or enlarged and blurry. I went for tiny and clear so I could see the control sites but not read the map on the move at all - so not much of a sprint! Amazing venue!

ahr:168 max:184 shoes: Integrators

Stop starty run the illegal way up Vesuvius, having to hide from the Carabinieri in the forest every once in a while!

Run back down Vesuvius.
