Hill Walking 2:30:00 [2] 7.0 km (21:26 / km)

We were woken at 6.30 am the next morning to clear skies, and wolfed down breakfast, packed up super quick and started to race towards the summit. after about ten minutes though the cloud came in and that was it - no views until below the treeline. Still, it was a tough hike, I'm not used to carrying a bag that heavy and it was like a hardcore two day strength session - plenty of single leg squat and step up type moves! Rob and I raced it down pretty quick as our feet were a bit battered, then ate pizza at the bottom. Really fun weekend and a beautiful part of the world!

Got back home sweaty and stinking to find our hot water broken and the landlady refused to believe that was the case, so spent the whole evening boiling water on the stove to "fill" a bath. Highly unsatisfactory state of affairs!

Hill Walking 4:30:00 [2] 6.5 mi (41:32 / mi)
shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

So, after all those wonderful suggestions, we chose a scorching weekend to hike up Mount Washington, the area well reputed to have the worst weather in New England, if not the whole of the US. There was reason behind this, as at the last minute a couple of tickets came up for The Granola Challenge, a group walk organised by a friend of my relatives, and as they were going, we thought we would tag along. We set off with huge heavy packs with overnight gear and beer, and started with a big group. They were stopping a bit too often though so we set off alone, and as we got above the treeline the weather really came in. Windy and rainy and cold, and we had no map (this is the first and last time I will ever do that in my life), we managed to make all the right decisions and end up at the Lake in the Clouds Hut. Pretty epic day, and the girls did really well to manage in some pretty awful conditions. We then had a fun evening with music and talks and skits, pretty much no sleep thanks to the horrendous snoring of "Uncle Bill" and lightened our packs by drinking some beer. By mid evening it was snowing outside - pretty crazy!

Running 21:46 [2] 2.3 mi (9:28 / mi)

Wozer. I was ready to collapse in a sweaty heap of jelly but Rob suggested we run, so we headed out. Jogged the long way to Kat and Boris's, checking out the park with the water fountains (AMAZING!) and the Farmington Canal path, which was very nice. Accidentally came a bit too close to the ghetto though. Kat and Boris have LOADS of exciting looking parcels to open on their return, and their house is still alive. Excellent! Hope everyone who heads off to the wedding this weekend has an amazing time - it will be awesome!

Running 6:17 [3] 0.8 mi (7:51 / mi)

Back down the hill home. Rob ran hard with his long legs and I was in a state. Not getting used to this humidity and heat!

Note

Yet again, a massive fail to get up early to go training! Need to get air con sorted and need to hope that the rain has come by the time I hit the track this evening!

Running 34:31 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (30:31 @2) 3.4 mi (10:09 / mi)

Nice evening laundromat shuffle with Rob. We saw two exciting deer and one exciting thing that I can't identify (fox sized but short legs and a bit more round, brown fur), and then Rob decided to race me up a hill. He won. Eep. Just starting to rain and pretty refreshing to be out - glad we saved it for the evening!

Running 26:30 [2] 3.0 mi (8:50 / mi)
ahr:169 max:176 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Boring treadmill running - was supposed to get up and run early but slept disastrously and couldn't. So hit Payne Whitney after work. Treadmill running is shit.

Strength 1:17:00 [1]
ahr:146 max:156 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Strength session in the gym with Rob - half squats, shrugs, SLDL, OH squat, OH press, pull ups. Rob is already getting more flexible - Boris, there is hope for your butt yet!

I met my running friend again at the end and we now have e mail addresses. Yey!
