Note
(rest day)

Rest day. I have nothing at all to do today. It's weird.

Running 30:00 [4] 2.9 mi (10:21 / mi)
ahr:174 max:189 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

A guided tour of some of feet's favourite rocks at Westwoods, with Boris along for the ride. After about 26 mins the boy went off ahead and I turned round, and instantly slumped - hungry and tired legs. Luckily I was very close to the car, where I met up with unpronunciation and we had a good wander and a good natter until the boys got back. Excellent choice of morning. Also, the least distance travelled in 30 mins this week but by far the hardest run - lots of jumping up and down rocks, some short sharpish uphills. Really fun.

Have just done all my Framingham related Christmas shopping in less than an hour! I'm impressed by that! Looking forward to seeing the gang for a brief Christmas jaunt.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Inpromptu cycling intervals when I got to my 8.45 meeting, realised I had no ID, cycled home, and then returned again. Intervals trying to make green lights. Gorgeous morning again, kind of cool to get an excuse to enjoy it.

Running 30:13 [3] 3.5 mi (8:38 / mi)
ahr:158 max:177 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Evening run to wind down after the week. Super chilly, but happy to be out and about. Now I'm not feeling obliged to work well into the evening I think I do still prefer evening running to morning. Won't be saying that when summer comes around again, I'm sure! Felt a little tired up Canner St, but it always catches you unawares.

Strength 25:00 [1]
ahr:122 max:146 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

I'm not really supposed to be doing any strength according to the plan, but I'm a bit addicted to the gym I guess. Just did a quick body weight circuit using a bosu, focussing on technique and a strong core. Then a bit of a stretch. I had walked into the gym thinking "7pm on a Friday, it's going to be empty." And the worst thing? Boris and Kat were there too! Nice to have a chat whilst doing silly balancing things.

Note

Wow. Friday nights when you're not working till 7/8pm are lonely! I want to talk about Parrots singing Drowning Pool and the new series of Misfits (which is a Channel 4 series back home and seriously worth a watch, for info), and instead I have to giggle in an empty room. It's a bit sad.

But Rob is coming to visit on the 6th of January for about two weeks. AMAZING! Can't wait. And it is Mike and Marie's party of awesomeness tomorrow, so the loneliness will not endure.

Running 30:05 [2] 3.5 mi (8:36 / mi)
ahr:159 max:182 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Things didn't go to plan in the lab today but I still managed to make it out for a daytime run, just before it got dark. Arthur wasn't too happy about it but meh. The good news is that we're going to make arrangements so that Kelly and I get one whole day off a week, going nowhere near the lab, which is going to be a real improvement. Another beautiful cold afternoon, great to clear the head. Didn't feel like pushing today so took it easy, and had a really good time.

Running 30:31 [2] 3.0 mi (10:10 / mi)
ahr:157 max:180 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Yey! This was so much fun. Dropped the car at Lake Wintergreen and did the first half of the long run with Boris, Marie and Matthias. First we ran back to Mike & Marie's place, where Anne-Louise and I got to stop and eat chocolate covered pretzels, while the others doubled back and did a long one. Really cold out there but brilliant once you got moving - an excellent plan by Boris meaning Anne-Louise and I got to enjoy lots of company on our bit. Really, really fun. Hope I can join in the whole thing after Christmas!

Note

Rest day full of stress. Not ideal.

Note

Blood tests back - no anaemia, totally normal on that count. WBCs low side of normal. High total cholesterol though, but this seems to be because I have way high HDL - the interwebs say anything over 60 is protective, mine is 85. Still, high cholesterol doesn't feel right.

Cake - you and me may have to become mortal enemies. I need to lose this silly thesis tyre anyway.

Running 30:00 [3] 3.9 mi (7:42 / mi)
ahr:167 max:187 shoes: 09 Saucony Grid

Lunchtime run around downtown and my favourite bits of Science Hill. Wound it up a bit at the end as I overestimated how far I could go, and didn't want to walk too much to get back. Still feeling a little stuffy I guess, but max HR didn't climb as high as yesterday, even when climbing up next to Boris and Kat's place.

At some point in the last week the Yale Health Plan appeared on Map my fitness, which is pretty cool.
