Orienteering 31:12 intensity: (49 @1) + (1:03 @2) + (12:44 @3) + (14:26 @4) + (2:10 @5) *** 6.02 km (5:11 / km) +65m 4:55 / km

Jog to Science Hill and then an adaptation of Graeme's sprint course, just missing out going inside the Divinity School, as I've done that a bajillion times. Mentally okay, but need to be planning further ahead, physically, I feel about 60. It feels like lungs rather than legs, which is not a problem I've had before. Surprisingly tricky course with lots of stairs. Wobbled a bit physically on 6 and took the wrong route choice for 9, having to climb some extra stairs.

QR on my DOMA (Cristina rocks!)

Obviously didn't screw up like that at 10, the track bears no relevance to the ground there at all - too low down.

Note

I have no idea why, but today I am thoroughly pooped. Lots of time on my feet at work I guess.

Note

Incredibly convoluted plans for going home part two complete! Visa pick up booked, trains booked. Now I just have to make sure I get up at 5am the day after a wedding to be on a train to Aberdeen for Deeside training fun with FVO! :s

It'll be great to see people, but it'll also be great to get to Duirinish and not have to do anything for a week afterwards :)

Last day at 27 minutes. Was back to humid again and it didn't feel particularly good. Legs are tight. The first two weeks are always the worst though.

Bleurgh, felt like rubbish this morning! Only had one cocktail at girlie drinks yesterday, but that seems to be enough these days. Tired legs and tired me. Probably ten hours on my feet didn't help yesterday.

So where is everyone going? New Hampshire or Ottawa?

Up to a whole 27 minutes now. Feeling good to be consistent, even on a small scale though. It is gorgeous outside today, warm with a nice cool breeze, no humidity. Awesome. Investigated the flat bit of East Rock - my little side path is blocked completely by downed trees next to the river, but aside from that there's just small branches. Here's hoping Tarrywile has suffered similarly minor damage. Got bitten or stung on my side by something out there and it really hurt, still stinging now. No idea what it was, never saw it.

Easy jog round the neighbourhood with Rob once the storm had passed. Not much damage really, some downed trees and branches, and we saw one set of downed power lines. Lots of people out and about.

Note

Made it out to Ansonia this morning but am not battling with the Windows plug in to get data, so it can wait till I'm home this afternoon. Got there no problem, took the 34 on the way back as I needed to get choccie milk for the final mousey run before the hurricane, and a couple of days after just in case. Bad idea. Not only were the first few Dunkins I tried out of whole fat choccie milk, but there were huge queues of people panic buying everywhere. It took a loooong time to get back to New Haven, where I realised I'd forgotten my ID. Driving back from work to home took ages, new Yalies still moving in and big trucks, presumably stocking up the kitchens for the next 48 hours. So I decided to cycle back to the lab, only to find that someone had tried to steal my back tyre. Got the toolkit, fixed it up, but they've bent the wheel a bit, and cycled in. Got to run the mice, give them extra food to last through tomorrow, and then head home to hunker down.

I need a new bike!

Yey, orienteering! So I realise when deciding what to do today, that my O' confidence is almost non-existent. I considered doing the Fog O', but despite having hung the controls, I didn't feel like I could successfully do it. Then I decided to man up, and it went really well. The main error was number 8, where I let the slope push me way too far to the right. I knew it, but when I hit the trail junction that wasn't on my map I chose to go investigate anyway, realised the slope was nothing like as steep as it should be, and figured out what had actually happened and re-climbed the hill to the control. I also thought I missed tricky six, but after a bit of wandering I realised the tag was gone and I had been right there. GPS confirms this.

Really enjoyed the morning and I hope the woods don't get destroyed over the next thirty six hours. Fingers crossed.
