Did not pick the best day of the week for the 3km Time Trial that Alex made me do! This was embarrassingly bad I guess, for 3km. The first two km felt great, and then I pretty much fell apart. At about 2.5km had to walk two steps to be able to fill my lungs up fully. Final time: 13.44. Which is depressingly only a little bit slower than my marathon pace of 2008. Ho hum. What is important is that I got out on a gross day and actually did it. That beats 70% of the last three of four years!

Fun morning out at Gay City with Izzy and Evalin. Did some creepy shadowing as they did a multi skill exercise - very well I should add. I was pretty tired the whole way, but it was really great to be out in snow free woods in January!

Here's the route from today's walk in the Preserve. There were many more trails out there too! You can park where we started, at the end of Ingham Hill Road in Old Saybrook, or on the north side, again off Ingham Hill Road. The north side is Essex Land Trust and is very well signed.

Spent the afternoon out hiking round what I'm pretty sure is CT's newest State Park - the Preserve at Old Saybrook. As I'm pretty sure M told me years ago, it is really quite beautiful, and we only discovered a fraction of the many trails there. Then a hot chocolate at a new coffee shop in Old Saybrook (Ashlawn Farms, very nice) a trip to the Book Barn Sale (12 books for $29!), and home. Once we got back I headed out for today's train, a quick aerobic 29 minutes. Was feeling the hot chocolate a bit halfway round, but it improved towards the end.

I also saw a woodpecker really close it doing it's thing at the Preserve, and that was awesome.

Two times Metis endurance, then some silly sprints. Metis endurance is just sprawls, filler, sprawls. Jumping up and down lots on the grass brought worms to the surface, which was pretty weird.

Switched Thurs and Fri on my plan as was tired this morning, and also needed the extra minutes to run to work for early lab meeting on Friday. Remembered the plan wrong and skimped 2 minutes. Shock horror!
