The travel home was not good. We checked in in an empty Manchester airport at 6.30am, and hung around at our gate. Two hours after the flight was due to leave for DUB, it was cancelled. We then had to linger at the gate for a further hour and were bussed back to arrivals, to pick up our bags and re-check in to a BA flight to LHR, then to BOS from there. When we got back to the Departures hall it was PACKED. Absolutely full of people, about a third of them not wearing masks at all our dangling them round their chins. It was chaos. We had to check all our bags and strollers and car seats in the awkward baggage check again, and this time there was a huge wait with large extended families checking in 10 boxes, and the person who the box was attached to was halfway across the terminal and needed to be present...it was chaos. We finally got our baggage checked again six hours after the first time, and were escorted back through the security fast lane as we were now on the verge of missing the flight. They took all Euan's drinks bottles to a different scanner and never brought them back. Luckily he's a champ and couldn't care less. We finally got on a packed flight to LHR with about 20 maskless people on it (apparently if they claim at the gate that they can't wear a mask there's nothing you can do to stop them?!?!) and were off.

Luckily Terminal 5 was much less chaotic and we upgraded on the second flight which had a total of 20 people on it and was an absolute dream.

Folks, Euan didn't even cry till 6 hours into the second flight. He was an absolute superstar.

Now we play the waiting game. In theory everyone in that terminal should have received a negative test in the 72 hours before travel, but it seems like masks were treated as optional so maybe tests were too.

We're supposed to get vaccinated once we're out of quarantine and I really hope we didn't get infected this late in the game. It sucks.

Hopefully penultimate or ultimate run in the UK, depending on the COVID test results from yesterday and how stressful packing is tomorrow. No new nodes today, just some favourite village spots. The cloud was high enough that I could see the white horse. Wasn't sure how this would go and in the end, nine minute miles felt easy, which I think is good.

After six weeks I finally realized the thing waking me at stupid o clock is Rob’s Mum getting up. I only manage to go back to sleep one out of four times or so. She goes to bed at 8.30, I still have hours more work to do at that point.

I am not looking forward to the travel or the quarantine but my goodness I am looking forwards to being in our own house. This trip did not achieve stated aims of being refreshed and productive. I am at zero for two, and this weekend it really caught up with me. Ugh.
