Note

Achieved miles and height for the week. At points felt like I could have done more but also legs quite tired, calves particularly. No pain just awareness but keen to be careful still.

Next week aim for 50 mile/ +2500m again.
12 PM

Fell run (reppin) 1:09:20 [5] 7.33 mi (9:28 / mi) +455m 7:56 / mi

Aim was to do the Italian Mountain Running session of alternating up, down and flat reps.

Chosen area was more up and down with not much flat but sort of managed it, got a bit mixed up near the end and did one final long uphill rep out of the woods to the hill top- mainly to get the view. Stunning day.

Fell run 1:01:13 [3] 6.55 mi (9:21 / mi) +476m 7:37 / mi

Hill run from Dreva.

Up Trahenna then round to the JB way, down to the village and home along the road.

Legs pretty tired and not moving great. Snow on the ground making it tough going and slippy but nice to be out.

(rest day)

YHA recruitment day.

Thursday Feb 1, 2018 #

11 AM

Road run 42:11 [3] 5.1 mi (8:16 / mi) +193m 7:24 / mi

Isel loop from home.

Legs pretty tired for this, calves especially. Will skip reps tonight as it is hill sprints which will only add to the tiredness of calves and top feels good enough just now. Would rather concentrate on maintaining mileage and consistency.

Trail run 1:17:21 [3] 8.24 mi (9:23 / mi) +189m 8:46 / mi

Lap of Derwent.

Aim for today had been Coledale but a wee bit tired then strong winds and frequent hail showers put me off going high- just not up for it. Still keen to keep the miles going so did a lap of the lake instead- will still get plenty height by end of the wk.

As I hadn't planned to do this route only had x-talons and worn out terraclaws in the car so ran the route in terras. This seemed ok and legs not too sore after. Calf muscles definitely getting a good work out in low drop shoes but forefoot technique is coming on- legs just need to get (slowly) accustomed to it then should be good to push on with more miles.

Road run 37:33 [3] 5.41 mi (6:56 / mi) +197m 6:14 / mi

Isel loop.

Easy miles. Legs seemed fine after yesterday and weekend, could feel I'd done some work but no bad aches or pains.
6 PM

Trail run 1:18:17 [4] 6.44 mi (12:09 / mi) +445m 10:00 / mi

KAC Fartlek. Railway then up Latrigg then race back down- good fun.

Four reps along the flat then 15x 1 min on/ 1 min off to the summit.

Good session and fun to race off the summit too- bit wary of decking it so not flat out but good to do a faster descent- need more of this in training as we get towards races.

11 AM

Trail run 2:16:25 [3] 13.66 mi (9:59 / mi) +1157m 7:54 / mi

Lap of Derwent taking in Cat Bells, Walla & Latrigg

Aim to keep a good pace the whole way and make a conscious effort to pick up the pace on the flat sections. Think I managed this ok and felt strong to the end but legs definitely feeling a bit tired from Burdens still, mainly quads but no big issues.

Nice to start the week with a decent run after a bit of time off last week.
