Wednesday Oct 31

Note
Had another one of those headaches.

Tuesday Oct 30

strength 50:00 [3]
Such nice weather. Makes me appreciate how much I love running/riding.

Monday Oct 29

Note
Went to the physio today. She reckons I tore my peroneus (or something) ligament, and I'll be running in a couple of weeks, more or less better in 4. Means I'll probably miss the Oxford City race :-( On a positive note, my glutes are better, so if I keep at it maybe I won't have knee pain when I do start running again.

Saturday Oct 27

Friday Oct 26

Turbo Trainer 1:00:00 [3]
10 min w/u then 8 by 3min on 5, 1 on 6 and 1 on 4. Did the last couple a notch higher.

Thursday Oct 25

Note
Had loads of stuff to do and kinda stressed out about it. Thought a day off wouldn't hurt my ankle which still isn't much better.

Wednesday Oct 24

strength 50:00 [3]
Didn't really have any energy today. Ankle a bit worse than yesterday too.

Tuesday Oct 23

Turbo Trainer 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)
15 min w/u then 2 lots of 15 mins a bit harder, with 5 mins recovery in between.

Monday Oct 22

strength 52:00 [3]
Did most stuff excluding lunges and some cable thingys. Ankle a bit less swollen but still bruised and quite sore.

Sunday Oct 21

Note
(injured) (sick)
The usual headache. Got worse overnight and quite painful today. Even a couple of codine tablets didn't seem to make any difference.

Saturday Oct 20

Turbo Trainer 30:00 [3]
(injured)
Tried 30 mins real easy. Ankle feeling a lot better but probably not quite good enough as it was a lot more sore after. On a positive note, I was concentrating on pedalling in a way that is suposedly good for my knee, and it didn't hurt a bit (but all the musclss that aren't used to being used like that sure did).

Friday Oct 19

strength 45:00 [3]
(injured)
My crutch and I went to the gym and did what we could.

Thursday Oct 18

Note
(injured)
No spectacular overnight recovery, but managed to get a crutch so that I could leave the flat.

Wednesday Oct 17

Note
(injured)
Ankle (actually more like side and top of foot) feels a lot worse than I expected, and I can't even stand properly without a lot of pain. Hobbling around the house is also stressing out my knee a bit. Here's hoping for a spectacular overnight recovery.

Tuesday Oct 16

running 40:00 [3]
A lap of the park and then over to Headington hill. Ran up and down what little hill there is (Headington "hill" park is definitely a misnomer) then quickly got bored so ran to South Parks. I was feeling really good and strong and having fun, especially in the drizzle. London road didn't feel as close as I thought it would. Back through HH park but rolled my ankle coming down the "hill". Hurt quite a bit so jog-limped back to the office.

I'm quite pissed at my ankle for going back to it's old habits again, especially as I was feeling almost like a runner again. I might have to wear-in the ankle braces, but I feel I shouldn't have to be using them for town running.

Monday Oct 15

strength 56:00 [3]
Did everything except lunges but finished a lot earlier than usual. Felt like I wasn't recovering very well between sets which would also imply I was a little quicker. Did a bit extra on the end.

Sunday Oct 14

cycling 2:10:00 [3]
Home-Botley-Combe-Stonesfield-etc-home. Beautiful day for it, but legs were tired from the gun. I'm not really sure why - the only thing I can think of is the leg exercises the physio has given me to do are wearing me down.

Saturday Oct 13

running 30:00 [3]
I felt like doing intervals, but my legs didn't. Just ran over to Cutteslowe and did a few short sprints and some drills, then almost jogged home again.
strength 59:00 [3]
Felt OK, despite not having eaten for about 5 hours. I was planning on eating at the gym, but the reception closed 10 mins before I got there. I'd just assumed that for OH&S reasons the reception would be open as long as the gym. Doh!

Friday Oct 12

Note
No time today, as had to go to London. Walking along the streets made Oxford seem quiet and peaceful in comparison.

Thursday Oct 11

cycling 1:23:00 [3]
Woodeaton-Beckley-HCS-SH-Elsfield. Pushed the hills. Beautiful Autumn day, though was the first day of the season I needed my arm warmers.

Wednesday Oct 10

orienteering 30:00 [3]
Made the long journey to the parks to meet the OUOC crowd. 10 min warm up, a short course and then a compass exercise. I'd almost forgotten how to use a compass and was a bit sloppy, but just glad it wasn't low visibility forest. This getting back into o could take a bit longer than I'd imagined ...
Knee definitely hurting by the end.

Tuesday Oct 9

strength 57:00 [3]

Monday Oct 8

Note
(sick)
Monster headache.

Sunday Oct 7

running 50:00 [3]
Flat, level. Bit longer than planned and felt it.

Saturday Oct 6

cycling 1:35:00 [3]
Fresher's ride, so it was pretty easy. Had a headache at the beginning and a bad one at the end.

Friday Oct 5

Note
(rest day)
Legs pretty tired, partly from all the physio exercises.

Thursday Oct 4

running 30:00 [3]
Ran down to and around my new favourite park - Cutteslowe. It has grass, public sports fields, trees, birds, a lake, mini-golf, loads of benches and even (first sighting ever in Oxford) picnic tables. The only thing it doesn't have is a hill, but one can't be too fussy I suppose.

Wednesday Oct 3

strength 59:00 [3]
Felt a bit tired today.

Tuesday Oct 2

cycling 1:17:00 [3]
Didn't have time today to do anything longer. Was concentrating on L leg form.

Monday Oct 1

running 31:00 [3]
First attempt at intervals for something like 5 years probably. Hence didn't do much - 2 by 30 secs, 3 by 70 secs and 2 by 30 secs with jog recovery. I actually felt like my form was pretty good, probably due to the cycling I've been doing up until lately. Also did a few quick drills that I remember TommyQ taught us on junior camp one year. My knee also felt pretty good, hopefully not because of all the cycling I haven't been doing lately.
Note
17 weeks after being referred the NHS physio had time to see me today. She seemed to know what she was on about, though. Reckons that I tore my lateral collateral ligament at some stage (probably when I felt like I tore a ligament on the side of my knee two years ago) and now everything on that side is loose and weak. Hence the pain I have been having. It seems my L hammy, quads and particularly glutes are weaker than my right, and I have a lot of movement in my L knee that I shouldn't really have. My left ITB is also particularly short, apparently. Gave me some exercises to do for the next 3 weeks. I then have to try running for 40 mins every day for the next week to see if I can or not without pain building up. After examining my joints she also told me that I am quite anxious and have trouble sleeping. Interesting.
