| Managed to finally make my training volume equal my motivation, i.e. sweet FA.
It was a beautiful day, my thumb was sore, and the turbo trainer has finally cracked me. |

| I didn't really have a plan for this, and took it pretty easy - riding on 4 most of the time with 3 1 min stints out of the saddle. The main trouble was that it was 25 degrees and bloody humid, with no breeze. Perhaps I should have bought a fan, but I thought I would be back outside by now. Thumb still sore. |

| This time I tried to slow down a bit (if that was possible) and go two laps of the reserves. Still felt very much like I haven't done any proper running for 2 years. |

| Did 7 mins on the rower - thumb has not been feeling too good lately so I stopped as soon as it didn't feel right. Then did some weights and ab stuff, along with gluteus medius (?) exercises for the ITB. Felt pretty tired - like my muscles hadn't recovered from Wednesday, which is probably fair enough given how little strength stuff I've been doing lately.
Stopped when I really made my thumb hurt by accidently rolling my bum over it whilst doing mat stuff. It is definitely hurting in a very bad place and in a very bad way, and I very much hope that I haven't fucked it up again. I think I will take it easy thumb wise for a couple of days to see if the pain goes away - as it should if it's just muscle pain. Fingers crossed! |

| After the usual w/u did the usual pyramid session (on 7.5) followed by the usual w/d. Legs felt pretty sore but I think most of this was from something I've done earlier in the week, not sure what though.
Went to see the doc this morning about my knee pain which has been very much worse than my whinging about it has been. It seems as though all the TTing I've been doing lately has really inflammed at ITB problem. Maybe that was also causing the pain when I run, but it's been so long I can't really tell one knee pain from another any more. He referred me to the physio, so knowing the NHS that should be in about 3 months.
However, after looking at some articles on ITB problems in cycling I spent a few minutes before my ride looking at my position. I found that my seat was at least 1cm too high! I normally set that up pretty carefully, but I think it must have hapenned when I got my new saddle a few months ago - I just put the saddle on and was so relieved that I could ride for more than 20 minutes without blood that I forgot that my seat height might need adjusting. Stupid. But anyway, it felt a bit funny in the new position during the ride, but afterwards I didn't get the usual shooting pains whilst walking around - magic! However, I also noticed that as I was doing my pedalling backwards with heels on the pedals trick, that my left leg could comfortably make it around without hip dipping quite a few milimetres before my right leg could. This is strange and something I will definitely look into. This marks the beginning of my crusade against knee pain. I was also going to order some Active Ankle braces last night but hesitated due to the fact I will probably have to pay at least £30 in duty, tax, delivery etc on top of the cost of the braces and delivery to UK. Don't think there's a way araound it, though.
Wow, what an essay! Thumb a bit sore today. Hope it's just muscle pain. |

| 8 mins rowing then some weights and ab stuff. I think I am going to find it very difficult not to fuck my thumb up again, simply because my muscles are not going to be doing any work but my ligament will be at threshold. I tried playing around with a 2kg dumbell and it felt OK so long as I didn't have it above my hand, such as at the top of a dumbell curl, for example. Then it seemed to push on a bone on the inside of my thumb which put not very good feeling pressure on my outside ligament. Will definitely not play with heavy dumbells for at least another month. I'd really like to be able to run OK, then I wouldn't mind so much.
Pleasantly suprised by my weight. I think that the muscle I am losing makes up for the fat I am gaining - but it's nothing really. |

| Same run as earlier - around the fields at the end of Jackdaw lane. I can't believe how knackered I feel by the end - I'd be so embarrassed if I saw anyone I knew. Still, at least there's plenty of room for improvement.
Knee was hurting, which sucks. I am kinda starting to think that turboing has given me ITB problems, which I've never had before. I get a lot of pain on the outside of my knee and it hurts to walk for the rest of the day (or 2) afterwards. There must be something asymmetric going on for it to only be in my left leg, but I don't know if I'll be able to find out what. |

| Ignored signs of sickness and burnt up the ol' Appleton ride. I noticed it on Saturday but confirmed it today - I am killing the times I was doing before I fucked up my thumb. I can't really see the logic in that. I feel like I am way stronger but less fit - I guess that's what you might expect from doing nothing but turbo-training for 2 months, but it's still a suprise. |

| (sick) |
| Wanted to get down to the gym today but after 10.5 hours sleep I woke up with a headache and it only got worse, plus a bit of nausea. Called it quits early from the office and wet home and slept for another 2 hours and took some drugs. Felt a bit better after that but not great. Also have a bit of a sore throat. If I get sick again then there is something seriously fucked up with my immune system at the mo'. |
