Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: inov-8 X-Claw 275

@ Balls Bluff.

Tired. I was up until 1 am the night before babysitting. My foot still hurts, though not worse than the day before I sprinted. I didn't run a course, the regular Sunday family schedule wouldn't have permitted it. Joined Jon on a walk through. Logistics were difficult because of the shuttles, but we managed to meet up and walk through a bit of the blue course. I was not dressed for running - in jeans and a puffy jacked. Lots of good pointers, starting from the most basic like how to use my compass properly on the map (my habit is to the compass in a way which covers up the terrain which is ahead of me) to more complicated like how I shouldn't sprint to a control after I spot it, rather slow down and plan the next route so I don't have to stop at the control - that's going to take years to figure out.

Running race 29:47 [3] 3.1 mi (9:36 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Asics Noosa FF (Black)

@ Twinbrook

Interfaith Works, Race to Empower 5K.

I promised Cindy that I'd run the race if I wasn't working and I wasn't scheduled to be at the hospital, but it's always hard to turn over the legs the day after a 12 hour shift. I have to flush all the edematous fluid from my legs first which usually takes a mile or two. Also, my foot still hurts from Wed, but it goes away after warming up so I tried to baby it and give it time to loosen up a bit. I'll mark it as an injury in case it lasts for months - I can never tell anymore with these things. (I do have a slight limp at times - it aches where the 5th metatarsal joins some tendons or something at the proximal end).

I'm not happy with my Garmin which measured the course short: 1, 1, 0.97 miles and these are the splits.

11:22 / 9:41 / 8:45

I let the whole field pass me by in the first mile, children, families, dogs, the mailman (lol.). And then I slowly picked it up based on my legs and my foot. I wasn't tracking the time too closely, but when I turned the final corner and saw the clock well past the 29 minute mark, I was like crap! I'm not going to break 30 which would be a bruise to the ego, so I sprinted to the end even though I may have compromised the foot.

Running 1:20:00 [3] 8.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Noosa FF (Black)

@ C&O

workout 8 miles. who knows what pace? I dunno. This is what happened:

10:45 / 9:43 / 9:23 / 8:51

a small break at the turn around

9:08 / 9:05

another small break

9:04 / 8:47

Beautiful weather. A little slow, but mostly satisfying. My right foot (which was fine during the whole run) is a little achy now. Hopefully nothing major. Fingers crossed.
