Orienteering race (Classic Distance) 1:10:33 [5] *** 6.2 km (11:23 / km) +200m 9:48 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: New Balance 472

Had a decent race. Navigation was okay but felt slow. Messed up #5 once I was in the circle even though I was being cautious as Alex had messed up that control in the middle. Caught Jess L at #10 then Jess H at #11. It definitely helped having them with me for a bit. Got away from them on the way to #16. Lost focus on the way to #17 and felt confused and out of it. Probably had over 4 minutes of mistakes. Salome won, Steph was 2nd. Enjoyed it more than the middle.
Didn't feel great after the race. Was all dizzy and nauseous for a few hours.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Twisters

Ran around on the model map for about 5 minutes. Had a good warm up to the start. Quads felt sore.

Orienteering race (Middle distance) 43:50 [5] *** 3.2 km (13:42 / km) +50m 12:42 / km
spiked:9/13c shoes: VJ Twisters

SA champs middle distance, Klipkraal Sabie.
I didn't have a great run. The way the vegetation was mapped took a bit of getting used to. I was slow through the bracken from 2 to 3. Found a few extra bends in the river than are shown near #10 so lost time there. Made a stupid parallel error on #11 where Steph caught me. Managed to get away from her across the river but she won by 5mins.

Running race (Inter-house cross country) 21:02 [5] 4.0 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Adidas Response

Ouch! Had a good but painful race. Started fast and soon D, Cynthia and I were leading. D pulled away and Cynthia dropped back up the hill so I went through half way in 2nd. Cynthia caught me on the downhill and we dragged each other to the 3km mark. She got away from me up the last hill. Tried to stick with her but was on the verge of throwing up. Finished 3rd. Mission accomplished.
Harveyan super star Karla led the juniors home.

Note

Played a cricket match against Balfour Hoerskool. We left at 12:30 so missed the last 2 lessons of school. Took over an hour to get to Balfour. Strange place! Lots of farms and mountains about. They batted first and made 38. I didn't get to bowl. I opened the batting. Was more successful than previous times but still not great. Played a few good shots before getting out lbw, again, although I definitely got my bat to it. Silly umpire! We cruised to 38 and managed to get back to school at a reasonable hour.

Adventure Racing race (Kinetic Urban Adventure) 28:00 [5]
shoes: New Balance 472

Kinetic Sprint race at Broadacres shopping centre. Paired with Zoe. First leg was confusing finding the right shops. Second running leg took us into the gym where we had to do 1km bike, row, treadmill. I spun my legs on the bike, Zoe did the row then I did the run. Did the run in just over 5mins.

Adventure Racing race 1:56:04 [4] 25.0 km (4:39 / km)

The first cycle leg, the road-map nav, was pretty tough. Felt like it took ages. There was a fair bit of off-road stuff but nothing too hectic. I did the nav. One error meant we had to go up an extra hill. Whoops. Second leg was with rally type instructions. No problems. Ended up taking it quite easy towards the end.
And we survived the obstacle course!

Wasn't very lucky at prize giving but fortunately I have a rather lucky and kind brother who got me a cool first ascent hat that I've wanted for ages.
