Run / Hike 1:05:00 [3] 4.47 mi (14:32 / mi)
slept:9.0 shoes: Adidas Supernova Sequence 2

Jog at Gateway Mesa / Mitchell Creek trail (out and back).

Note to self: a treeless, slickrock trail is hellishly hot at 3:00 pm. Third notice.

I stopped a few times to collect rocks and build cairns in the spots where I always lose the trail. And then I stopped a few more times to drink water and stand in the few available spots of shade (behind the map sign at the trail junction, for example). Wunderground says it's 95° out here right now...ugh.

(Update: just watched the news, and we officially had record-breaking heat today...)

Run / Hike 1:23:53 [3] 4.19 mi (20:01 / mi) +820ft 16:53 / mi

This started off as a line-O training course on the southern half of the Devil's Thumb map, courtesy of Acampbell, but I realized pretty quickly I wasn't up for the steep climbs. I had also made the mistake of wearing shorts, and the scratchy brush was making me crazy.

So, I decided instead to bail out and do a trail run. And by "run" I mean my usual glacially-slow jog. On the latter part of the loop I eventually met up with Sverre and Alison, who had also decided to head in due to the fading daylight. So, I jogged in with them. We picked up Leif and Alison's friend Josh at the start / finish trail junction, then jogged another half-mile back to the parking lot. FUN!
