Orienteering race (Red course) 1:14:37 [3] 5.74 mi (13:00 / mi) +489ft 12:02 / mi
slept:6.0 weight:109lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2016)

A great day at Round Mountain, race-wise, friend-wise, and weather-wise. It was not-so-great (physically nauseating, actually) to see Troy there with his new girlfriend.

I made a dumb mistake on my way to #6. My plan was to follow the fence and then use the corner as my attackpoint (or maybe more of a waypoint). But I was so focused on the private-property fence that I didn't even notice the N-S fence on the map, so I headed off 90 degrees in the wrong direction when I hit it. DUH.

Small bearing issues on the way to #7 and #13. HUGE bearing screw-up on the way to #16. Sigh...

But I finished 4th overall -- happy with that. Mid-course, running in a dispersed pack with Simon & Mickey definitely helped a few times (normally, it seems like I'm 100% on my own without the helpful sightings of people entering & leaving controls). On the other hand, talking to Mickey caused me to lose track of my pace count and map contact a few times -- but Mickey is a nice guy and I was trying to give pointers. :-)

I enjoyed the course -- maybe would have preferred a bit more technical, rocky challenge.

Run / Hike (Summer Training 2017) 6:41 [3] 0.55 mi (12:09 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:111.4lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

Warm-up jog.

Run / Hike hills 1:04:40 [3] 5.48 mi (11:48 / mi) +463ft 10:56 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

I did this on my own, after dark, since I worked late and missed the group run.

Assignment: 50-55 minutes of the Tyler Ave hill loop, which translated to five laps / five miles.

Extra time & distance walking home.

It was nice to see the big red moon rising on my fourth lap, while it was still between the horizon & the rain clouds. Light rain towards the end, but it was pleasant.

Yoga @ the rec center.

We had a sub for the regular instructor. It was the guy who uses phrases like "exhale through the buttocks". Tonight it was visualizing our tailbone as the nozzle of a fountain pointing up at the sky. OK.
