This was another fun course (I did the long option again). I made a DUMB mistake at #9 and lost two spots there (to Doug & John). Leaving #10, I had tunnel vision and totally missed the option of staying close to the line (and then taking the road). But I was pretty happy with this overall.

I stepped in a hole near the end and mildly sprained my ankle. It didn't hurt while I was finishing the course, but it IS hurting now and it looks like a cankle. I used today's dirty knee socks to tie on a ziplock bag full of ice; maybe that helped a little.

I dragged my mountain bike along with me on this trip, so I forced myself to ride even though I was kinda tired from the races yesterday and today. I did the "Stone Temple" loop at Curt Gowdy, and it was great -- perfect for my ability level (but not boring) and scenic. It's a short loop and I'd ride it more than once if that was all I was doing this weekend...but I didn't want to overdo it with two more races left to go.

And then I rode over to the lake area to have a quick visit with Cindy & Bruce at their campsite.

Event: Labor Daze

My original plan was drive up Thursday evening or early Friday morning so that I could MTB at Curt Gowdy on Friday morning before the race.

Instead...I left home Friday at around 1pm, got stuck in I-25 traffic congestion, and screeched into the Telephone Song parking area with about 10 minutes left to change clothes and get ready for the race -- kinda stressful.

(But, on Thursday, I did get my carpets cleaned, made a Goodwill run, did laundry, went to my running group, did six weeks work of checkbook balancing and bill paying in Quicken, and finished some work to (almost) meet a deadline even though I was on vacation...ugh). I got only four hours of sleep before leaving for Laramie on Friday, but I knew I'd be much more relaxed this weekend with all that stuff done and not waiting for me on Monday.

Race: I enjoyed this course a lot (such nice terrain compared to super-steep Camp Alexander last weekend...). At the shortcut decision point, the long option was a nice, long downhill leg, so I went for it.

I may have benefited from pack running at the beginning and very end of the course, but I was mostly on my own for the middle portion -- and I'm happy that I had a pretty clean run. (The areas mapped as rough open were very thick / tight vegetation, so I decided to go around those, e.g. 3-4 and 11-12.)

I was supposed to do yesterday's five-mile tempo run today, but I was running out of daylight by the time I got home from work / errands, and I have a zillion tasks to finish (for work, RMOC, and at home) before I can leave for Laramie late Thursday or early Friday morning (to hopefully allow time for MTB'ing @ Curt Gowdy) I shortened it to three miles instead of five.

From home to the Daughenbaugh / Warembourg trails:

- Ran one mile and then walked a bit to warm up.

- Three-mile tempo run (9:05, 8:58, 8:53).

- Walked a bit and then ran one mile to cool down.

I enjoyed the crickets, frogs, bats, and one large owl.

I left work early to go get blood drawn (for my thyroid rx), so I should have been early to my running group -- but then I realized I had left my running bag in my cubicle at work. :-|

I probably could have counted yesterday's orienteering course as the six-mile run I was supposed to do this weekend, but I mostly walked yesterday...

I started at the west end of the Mayhoffer-Singletree trail this time (at 66th), so I could warm up for a while before hitting the big hill on Meadowlark Trail. Next time I think I'll start where Coal Creek Dr crosses the trail, so that I can get more of the Meadowlark hill before turning around.

Full sun but not too miserably hot -- and I still LOVE my hydration vest.

Ran 6.1, walked the rest.
