Note

Yes, I got one of each at the dinner party last night...but they were tiny. Very delicious!

Run / Hike race 30:36 [3] 3.15 mi (9:43 / mi) +322ft 8:52 / mi
slept:5.0 weight:111.8lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

"Beware the Bear" trail race at Bear Creek Lake Park -- part 1 of 2 (5 K).

PERFECT weather -- sunny and 60 degrees (and just a little bit windy).

The course had three big hills which all felt manageable. My stomach started acting up in the second mile -- ugh (beer trolley and food trucks last night for a friend's birthday was probably not the best pre-race regimen...). I was watching constantly for strategically-placed bushes, in case it became an emergency. Made it to the finish and then made a beeline for the bathroom. :-\

* #2 out of 5 F40-49 (#1 was five minutes ahead of me -- but she didn't do the 2nd race)
* #8 out of 24 Female
* #20 out of 40 Overall

"Beware the Bear" trail race -- part 2 of 2 (14.25 K)

Weather still perfect. :-) I switched to short sleeves and actually would have preferred a tank top.

This course consisted of two loops. I've never done a race with that format, and I'm not sure if I like it. On one hand, I finished the first loop thinking "ugh, now I have to do that all over again". On the other hand, at least I knew what was coming and I could tell myself "only four more hills", "only three more hills", etc.

Very fun -- with surprising results (it was not a huge race...):

* #1 out of 4 F40-49
* #11 out of 23 Female
* #32 out of 51 overall

There were only 11 of us who did both races (I thought it would be much more than that...); I was #2 out of 6 females, #6 out of 11 overall.

I'm heading to some friends' catered anniversary dinner this evening, and the menu sounds amazing (e.g. dessert includes salted butterscoth brulee, red velvet cheesecake bar, and a fresh fruit tart -- I get one of each, right?). I'm glad I can indulge knowing that I have "earned" the extra calories for today. ;-)

Run / Hike 29:20 [3] 2.43 mi (12:04 / mi) +138ft 11:27 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

Assignment for today (before tomorrow's 19 K trail race): "2-3 miles very easy". I ran 2.1 and walked the rest.

Then to Biscuit Bar for a breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs & cheddar on a biscuit) and cold-brew nitro coffee. I don't usually have caffeine...and I feel like I'm going to be wired this afternoon for my friend's birthday beer trolley outing. And I don't really love coffee (unless loaded with cream and sugar), but the nitro cold-brew was delicious "straight".

Interesting conversation with Biscuit Bar bartender / waiter / cashier / professional magician (I'll consider him professional b/c he's performing at the upcoming CES show and will supposedly be on Penn & Teller's TV show next season). He was entertaining (not the usual cheesey magician type) but unfortunately married and moving away next month. ;-)

Run / Hike 40:19 [3] 4.02 mi (10:02 / mi) +177ft 9:38 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

Easy four-mile neighborhood run before 10am conference call.

I wasn't up early enough to get a cool sunrise pic like my other friends this week (example below), but I did see a cluster of four hot air balloons; a bunch of fat, chirpy prairie dogs; and a big hawk sitting in a tree directly over the ditch path.

Note to self re layering: at 27°, grey tech gloves are too thin; arms too cold w/ just long sleeve driweave and vest.

Run / Hike hills 55:20 [3] 5.12 mi (10:48 / mi) +400ft 10:04 / mi
slept:7.0 weight:112.4lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2017)

I started out with the Runners Roost group, but I parted ways at the GHX hill so I could do the workout I was supposed to do yesterday...

- Ran one mile to warm up.

- Hill repeats x 5 (not as steep as the Tyler Ave hill, so I tried to make myself go faster).

- Ran a little under one mile to cool down.

Beer & pizza back at the Roost.
