slept:8.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

GPHXO Two-Hour Night-Score-O @ Coon Bluff in Phoenix.

The best route was pretty obvious, and the controls were all very close to trails or washes.

So I should have been able to clean the course -- but I was very much thrown off by the scale. I didn't realize it was not actually 1:10,000 (as printed on the map) until long after I had blown past #30. I thought it was too far to go back for, but in retrospect I totally should have done that.

I tried to get it at the end, sprinting a LONG way out and back from the start / finish area at a really uncomfortable pace, but I didn't find it (even though my tracks show I was right on top of it at one point) and got back 45 seconds late. DOH!

But -- VERY fun overall. (I measured later, and the scale was more like 1:8,000.)

Getting caught up at work == unintentional rest day. Stomach is still crampy and unhappy.

Orienteering race (Red) 1:11:03 [3] 3.52 mi (20:11 / mi) +404ft 18:12 / mi
slept:5.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

Another night (last night) of terrible sleep. After tossing and turning for a while, I flipped around and put my head at the foot of the bed, so I'd be just a bit farther away from the noisy window. Still with headache and stomach issues today, too. Ugh.

----------

The thickness of the brush for #1 - #5 was kinda unbelievable -- very difficult to move through and see through. I was hunched over swatting branches out of my face most of the time.

After yesterday's disasters, I tried to be extra careful -- but, that plus the thick veg meant I was also extra SLOW.

I found #1 - #4 OK, but got a little lost around #5 (I saw the clearing ahead and thought I had gone too far so I turned back -- in fact I was probably very close). JP found it while I was nearby, so that was helpful...

After #6, the rest of the course was very open and fast and I enjoyed it a lot (much like a park Sprint course). But I was still near the bottom of the Red results. Oh well -- it was still fun overall.
