Rocky Mountain State Games @ Fox Run Regional Park -- Red course.

It was sooooo hot -- and I felt really out of shape, struggling up all the short hills.

I started out OK, but later legs had lots of hooks and bananas. On my way to #14, I started to think I was on my way to #18 -- so I left the trail I was following. Brain failure due to heat & fatigue...

I got the second place medal for "F-21+" -- only because Maiya was ineligible, since she helped vet the course. (She would have beaten me even if she had not been the vetter!) :-P

LoCO FIT workout at Davidson Mesa. I went to the morning session since it's supposed to be almost 100 degrees this afternoon -- and lingering jet lag is helping me get to sleep and wake up at more normal hours than my usual ridiculous schedule...

- Ran one mile to warm up, and then walked a bit.

- Three-mile progression run -- 9:49, 9:20, 8:55.

- Walked back to the trailhead to cool down.

I should have done the five-mile loop a few others were doing, but I'm still feeling stiff and sore from the Tuesday night track workout (after two+ weeks of hiking rather than running and way-too-many hours of sitting on Saturday-Sunday-Monday)...and I want to save myself a bit for Saturday's meet at Fox Run (might do the Blue course).

At around midnight (while I was asleep), my left calf seized up into an incredibly painful knot / cramp. It hurt for the rest of the night (waking me up occasionally and seeming to be on the verge of seizing up again), and it still hurts this morning as I'm walking around...

This sometimes happens with my feet, but the calf cramp seemed much more painful.

LoCO FIT workout at the LMS track.

- Ran a few laps to warm up.

- 4x400, 3x800, 2x400. Our assignment was to focus on fast turnover, at mile to 5K pace on the 400s and ~10-20 seconds slower than that on the 800s. One to two minutes of walking recovery in between.

It was 90 degrees with no cloud cover and I *really* wanted to quit after the first 800. But, got it done. :-P

Today's meeting started at 8:30 am and activities continued until 9:15 pm. I wanted to poke a fork in my eye.

I gained a few pounds over the past two weeks (I guess daily cheese, chocolate, pastries, beer & wine will do that?). So, besides being annoyed by all-day meetings in general, I was especially resentful that this BS prevented me from eating my preferred foods and getting in a run.

Sunday Jul 14 #


Travel day. ~Eight-hour flight from Milan to Newark, and then a ~four-hour fight from Newark to Denver. Watched four movies and 1.5 episodes of True Detective (which was better than all the movies -- I should have started with that so I could have watched more episodes).

I got up at 6am in Milan and got home at 8pm (3am Milan time) -- a 21-hour travel day.

"Super excited" for all-day meetings at work tomorrow & Tuesday.
