Orienteering race 2:13:43 [3] 6.82 mi (19:36 / mi) +1027ft 17:10 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Turq)

Javelina Hustle at Box Canyon (Greaterville, AZ) -- Long course.

I didn't realize (or forgot?) that there were two courses, so I followed the wrong pack out of the start. Duh. As a result, I took an inefficient route to #1.

Then I blew it big-time on #6 (I probably stopped concentrating because it looked "easy"). Hooked into #7.

For #10, I didn't want to deal with all the up-down on the more direct route, so I went wide, up the parallel reentrant and then across the top.

There was an unmapped fence that confused me near #14, so I wandered a bit there.

Great weather & enjoyable course.

Travel day.

I was lured in by the "Javelinas de Tubac" advertisement at TUS baggage claim, so I decided to go check it out, along with the Tubac Presidio museum / state park.

I had also planned an easy run on the Anza trail, but I was running out of daylight.

Went to dinner instead. A 90-minute wait? Whut? Oh, it's Valentine's day... Was able to sit at the bar right away (which I usually avoid, but it wasn't too cramped and I didn't have to chat with anyone).

Weekly Runners Roost group run.

East on Cherry Street to the Coal Creek trail, out to Community Park & the top of Andrews Lane, and then back the same way.

I wiped out on the ice on my way back (I was zoning out...), but luckily didn't hurt myself -- just banged & bruised the same knee I landed on at the Oatmeal Festival 5K a few weeks ago.

Excellent coyote & owl sounds in the open space areas. Excellent Thai dinner with a few from the group afterwards.

Old Man Winter 10K in Lyons.

There was a lot of new snow on the trail segments (which was like running on slippery beach sand -- my calves are still sore, two days later), and the road / dirt road stretches were snow-packed. Even though it was actively snowing, there wasn't any wind and it was warmer than last year -- really pleasant conditions.

The only downside was that my nanospikes kept getting dislodged from my shoes (maybe because of the deep snow? I haven't had that problem with the spikes before). I had to stop FIVE times to adjust them, which wasted a lot of time. After the second time, I thought I would just ignore it, but they got so twisted that they were scraping the insides of my ankles with every stride.

But at least I got to race -- the 100K bike race was cancelled after ~20 miles (due to icy roads / dangerous conditions), and the 50K bike racers never even got to start. Ouch...
