Run / Hike 14:00 [3] 0.75 mi (18:40 / mi)
slept:7.0

Walked to & from the rec center.

Strength / Stretching 1:00:00 [3]

Becky's (outdoor) yoga class at the rec center.

Something I didn't mention in my Camp Elim write-up was that, towards the end of the course, I stepped on a log, it rolled, and I went down HARD. My upper chest (just below collar bone) landed on the log, and it knocked the wind out of me. Oof. It wasn't too terribly painful that day or at Fox Run on Sunday (but I could definitely feel it); today, however, it's more bruised and painful and it's difficult to get a deep breath. But I made it through the yoga class. ;-)

7 PM

Run / Hike 59:34 [3] 3.03 mi (19:40 / mi) +162ft 18:43 / mi
shoes: Brooks Caldera (2020)

Walked to & from Gastronauts / Gravity for tonight's special pizza and a "Coral Quasar" beer (pomegranate sour) in their nicely-spaced-out biergarten area. So good!

I got an early start today, since I couldn't wait to get out of my grubby hotel.

Fox Run -- White course.

9 AM

Orienteering 43:39 [3] 2.09 mi (20:53 / mi) +285ft 18:30 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

Fox Run -- Orange course.

10 AM

Orienteering 1:13:52 [3] 3.65 mi (20:14 / mi) +522ft 17:49 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

Fox Run -- Red course. The park was getting busier, and I had to stop a couple of times to explain what I was doing. ;-)

Some guy waved at me from a long way away when I was in my car fiddling with the UsynligO app. As he got closer I realized it was...Neal Barlow walking his two cute dogs. Can't wait to try his Blue Mountain courses!

Orienteering!!!

I had planned to do all three of Jim Baker's Woodland Park-area UsynligO courses at Camp Elim, Manitou, and Rainbow Falls. But --

* I got a late start (I decided to get an overdue oil change on my 15-year-old car before getting on the road);

* After getting to the Camp Elim start area, I couldn't pull up the course on my phone and ended up driving all the way into Woodland Park before I got a strong enough signal. GD! (I had a printed map, but I learned the hard way that a cell signal is required to get the course loaded -- and then it's GPS only); and

* I was seriously sucking wind and therefore very slow on the first two courses. Ay caramba -- time to start some real training again instead of the 12-minutes-per-mile jaunts I've been doing lately... :-|

So this was the Camp Elim course -- a beautiful area, nice course, and perfect weather (sunny, not too hot, no afternoon thunderstorms). I was slow anyway but I also stopped a few times to take photos.

5 PM

Orienteering 57:25 [3] 2.25 mi (25:31 / mi) +564ft 20:37 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2017-Navy)

Course #2 of the day at Manitou South. I walked pretty much the whole thing -- it's easy to get hopelessly lost here!

And then I headed to Colorado Springs to shower at my hotel and get dinner. The hotel looked nice from the outside in the onlne photos, but was actually a fleabag dump -- the periodic reminder I need that it's worth it to spend some extra $$$ sometimes.

I eventually enjoyed dinner (after they remade the shrimp fajitas I had ordered, not chicken...). And apparently masks aren't a thing in Colorado Springs; people were looking at me like I was a weirdo. So I decided to be (inwardly) defiant about it -- "yeah, that's right, I'm the Boulder County liberal here in your territory, right-wingers!"
