This was just another boring neighborhood walk until I heard four gunshots that I first thought could be fireworks set off by hooligans at the skate park that I was approaching. Then I saw a bunch of kids scattering away from the skate park like high-speed cockroaches. One of them was nice enough to say "don't go down there -- somebody has a gun!" as he scootered past me.

I called 911 and relayed some info from a few kids who had stuck around: it was a 14-year-old boy they recognized, firing into the air, and no one was injured. When officers arrived and one kid gave the 14yo's name, the officer immediately rattled off the kid's name and home address into his radio -- so I'm assuming he's a "frequent flyer".

They took my statement (which was just that I had heard gunshots as I was walking up), and then I continued my walk.

It wasn't scary in the moment, but the local Facebook page was blowing up by the time I got home -- and that made me really sad for all the Moms who were worried about their kids who had been there at the time (younger 10 & 11 year olds). :-\

slept:8.0 weight:123.9lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2021)

Weekly Runners Roost group run.

I spent the first ~30 minutes of this run feeling guilty about being very direct with someone to convey that I wanted to run alone (after five or six polite, hinting statements...).

But otherwise this was pleasant -- 50ish and no wind. I went at a very slow pace, since I donated blood on Monday.

From the store, up the Hwy 36 bikeway (I walked this half-mile stretch), one lap around Davidson Mesa, and then back via the bikeway.

Note

Blood donation #3 of 8 for third gallon pin. Yikes -- it has been more than two years since my last donation (November 2018). I quit for a while (in 2019) because I feel like donating takes a toll on me physically for running & orienteering. 2020 would have been the perfect time to donate regularly (no real training, no races, no orienteering), but I already felt so sluggish and out of shape that I didn't want yet another thing slowing me down...

They had to adjust the needle several times today, which was highly unpleasant.

I got all geared up to run the Mayhoffer-Singletree-Coal Creek loop, and it was brutal cold wind again when I got out of the car (just like the last time I planned to do this loop). So I spent a few hours cooking and stocking my freezer instead (shrimp gumbo and refried chipotle black beans).
