Cuppers/varsity selection at St. Neots - 3rd
Great race today. Really liked the look of the course and was feeling decent. From about 500m in, I had the sinking feeling that this was gonna be another lonely race but decided to retain my position around 10m behind Joe/Jamie and in front of the chasers.
Stayed just behind them for most of the second lap and seemed to pull away on the others. Started to feel it at around 5.5-6k but felt okay so pushed on. After Jamie had rocketed ahead, I managed to keep Joe around about 40-50m in front of me.
Ploughed on and was very much motivated by staying ahead of Rian, not because his position counted (because it doesn't), but because I didn't want to be beaten by someone wearing a work shirt for a laugh.
Managed to hold him off and finish around 5-7secs behind Joe for 3rd and also a very unofficial but also quite tasty 10k PB.
So overall an excellent day at the office, even if the marshalling was a little bit questionable at times... Secured the selection for varsity blues team and great to see Ewan and Rennie grabbing spots as well. Exciting stuff!
