Messaged Sasha last night to see if he was running today and he said he was doing it with this mysterious group I’d never heard of. First red flag.
Pitched up to the start. There’s a guy wearing running flip flops. Second red flag. Set off at a pace at which it’s almost impossible to maintain forward motion. Third red flag. If I were feeling charitable, I would say it was a bit slow, however if I were being dramatic I would say it made me want to stick needles in my eyes.
Anyway, amused myself by asking barefoot guy about his questionable choices. He said he ran like this cos it’s ‘natural’, which is possibly the worst argument I’ve heard for ruining one’s feet.
Escaped after 10k. Fair to say we won’t be doing that again.

Morning run up to rustaveli, where there are some absolutely corking Christmas lights. Outstanding effort.

Trail loop intervals

An extension of the old classic, revisiting the standard hilly trail loop. Felt guff beforehand, leading to a mediocre first rep, but soon got into it and the paces held nicely for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th reps. Working hard but paces are nothing to worry about on that route. Overall, I’ll take that.
Even some other guys out doing some sprints today - shock horror. I think they were footballers, purely from my sixth sense.

Picked up an unexpected canine escort about 500m in and the wee guy saw me all the way home. Pros: got me safely through his ends, kept pace well, no overly rogue opinions. Cons: nearly made me face plant twice, not much in the way of chat, prone to chasing every second prius he saw.

Late and extremely entertaining evening last night so gave myself an extra half hour in bed before this. Usual road loop - could have done with some tunes to pass the time. Most enjoyable moment was when a stray dog ran alongside me for a bit and then just got on a packed bus as its doors were closing - respect.

Early start to get out to central park for the first session back. Was hoping to cut off some of the distance with the metro but alas, it was gonna take too long. Didn't log this so I didn't drain my very rubbish battery - good move.

I asked Vlad last night if I needed a torch, to which I was absolutely laughed out the room, so it was to my surprise that I turned up at our spot today and it was pitch black with no streetlights. Fantastic.
Literally could not see a thing for the first half of the session and it only started to get light at the end. This obviously impacted the pace, and with the combination of this and needing the loo and being a bit rusty, this made for some very very slow times to begin with.
They got better but perhaps I overestimated what I could do first session back with a runny nose and no night-vision goggles. Still, I got it done and that's the main thing.

Sleeting in the centre and there was a proper covering of snow up in the forest when I got there. Temperature was hanging just the wrong side of zero for the whole time.
Garmin seems to have now dropped to around 2 hours of GPS battery, so not at all ideal, but not as catastrophic as I first feared. I am currently exploring replacement/repair strategies, which is proving difficult in a country yet untouched by the blessing of amazon prime.

Absolute comedy of errors this morning. Planned to meet the lads for their morning run which starts for some unknown reason at 7:30am - why? Metro took ages so was gonna be late, so took the moped up to the lake as usual. This was on the one hand fun because mopeds are cool, but on the other hand it also destroyed any sense of feeling in my fingers, which is a positively smashing start to any run.
Had to hang around for a bit for the lads but ultimately the hour with them was thoroughly enjoyable. Plan was to finish there and get the moped/metro back, but then my hapless phone revealed to me that it was on 1% (having been on 57% when I last checked), so run to the station it was (not after I'd stood waiting 10 minutes for a non-existent bus). And to cap it all off, my garmin died.
The things I do for a bit of chat.

Running 29:00 [2] 6.0 km (4:50 / km)

Pretty accurate estimate of what the garmin missed. It appears that since today it is draining the battery very quickly, even when just in normal watch mode. I've had it for over 3.5 years now, does anyone know if this is common?
