Saturday May 5 #

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 1:12:00 [3] 14.3 km (5:02 / km)

So. Many. Snakes. Jess found at least 8 water snakes all coiled up together in a sunny spot right next to the water. Fortunately, something primordial in her DNA warned her not to stick her snoot into a writhing ball of snakes.

Paddling (SUP) 1:00:00 [3] 3.5 km (17:09 / km)

First puppy paddleboard picnic of the season. West wind kept the bugs away and made for a slow paddle upstream to our favorite picnic spot. On the way back, Jess finally took me down by launching off the side of the board for no apparent reason. She got cleaner, and I got filthier.

Swimming 1:00 [3] 0.0 km (16:40:00 / km)

Unexpected swim practice in the river, courtesy of Jess.

Friday May 4 #

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 1:27:00 [3] 16.7 km (5:13 / km)

Humid ride. Testing out riding with lower pressure in the front shock. There's a beaver hanging out in our back yard this morning. Maybe he'll eat some of the fallen tree limbs around the pond so I don't have to haul them into the woods.

Thursday May 3 #

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 1:27:00 [3] 17.8 km (4:53 / km)

Early-morning ride in an attempt to beat the heat. Jess wallowed in every mud hole along the way. Bugs are back.

Wednesday May 2 #

Paddling 2:58:00 [3] 15.5 km (11:29 / km)

Egg Rock to Fairhaven Bay to Old North Bridge on the first official day of summer!

Tuesday May 1 #

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 1:25:00 [3] 17.8 km (4:47 / km)

Sucked a thick stick of pine into my front wheel, which immediately locked up when it jammed against the fork. Luckily, I had just stopped to clear some other debris off the trail, so I was moving slowly enough that I didn't rip any spokes out.

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 56:00 [3] 11.7 km (4:47 / km)

Replaced my chewed-up 34T big ring with a bash guard and a 36T with all of its teeth intact. Now I can go faster AND bash into things with impunity!

Took Jess out for a night-time spin around the pond before the heat wave arrives. Cranked up both lights to Turbo once we were on the home stretch. So much fun!

Sunday Apr 29 #

Mountain Biking w/ Jess 49:00 [3] 10.5 km (4:40 / km)

Sunrise ride with Jess before The Adventure Dogs! arrive for a full day of multi-sport training (sans dogs). We always somehow pick the rainy day of the weekend, and it's already started to sprinkle.

Road Biking 1:53:00 [3] 33.0 km (3:25 / km)

AR training with The Adventure Dogs!
Rainy loop around the refuge, and then up to South Acton and back on the new rail trail.

Paddling 2:18:00 [3] 12.5 km (11:02 / km)

Canoeing and kayaking with The Adventure Dogs! Caught one more gusty band of rain on the paddle up to Lake Boone. On the way back, a mink swam across the river, right in front of us.
