Spur-of-the-moment decision to head up to Elfin Lakes. The views are fantastic; the trail is meh.

The first 5km are a tedious slog up a service road, with trees on either side. The gradient is in that annoying in-between zone where I could probably run it all if I wanted to, but I didn't want to, but then it felt silly walking, so I'd run again. Also it's boring.

After that, there's a little diversion for 1km where the trail is actually a trail rather than a road, then it's back on the hard-packed vehicle-width stuff. The views make up for it though - great mountain backdrops. After 6.5km, you start the flat/descent to Elfin Lakes. The lakes are very pretty, and sensibly one is reserved for swimming, and one is reserved for drinking.

There was a little smoke in the air, but it didn't affect me (enough to smell, but not to taste; enough to reduce the intensity of the sun, but not to reduce visibility).

Finally made it to Mag's 99 on the way back (the last few attempts have failed due to being too late / there being massive waits). My pork burrito was good! Probably the best Mexican food I've had in Canada (but that's a very low bar). Not worth waiting a long time for, but a good change from pub food if it's quiet.
