Downhill skiing 2:15:00 [3]

Lake Louise skiing. Very arctic conditions up top - probably -20C with blowing snow/ice. Regret shaving my beard.

Downhill skiing 2:15:00 [3]

Downhill skiing at Lake Louise. The conference has breaks in the afternoon for outdoorsy stuff, and today was a perfect day for skiing.

Snow conditions were "variable". Fun powder in places, but super icy patches on some of the more popular runs.

My rental skis are very different to what I'm used to. Shorter, fatter, way less flexible, and much harder to get an edge on the icy stuff. Got more confidence towards the end of the day, so hopefully the rest of the week will be more epic.

In case there were any doubt, Lake Louise is still very pretty.

Running 25:39 [3] 5.1 km (5:02 / km) +218m 4:09 / km

Nice run by and on Lake Louise (out and back).

Went out on the regular trail, which was simultaneously incredibly slick and incredibly bumpy. They do horse and carriage rides along that trail, where the carriage has sleds. So the horse feet leave big divots, while the sleds flatten out the rest. Sketchy and not so much fun.

After I reached the "avalanche danger beyond this point" sign (just beyond the frozen waterfall - pretty!) I ran back along the lake itself. Much better! Cadence was far more stable, and pace was at least 30s/km faster.

Yay for conferences in pretty places!
