Running - Road / Track (road) 10:00 [1] 0.83 mi (12:02 / mi) +5m 7:21 / km
Warm up for orienteering, including some jogging in place while yakking it up.
Running - Road / Track (road) 5:00 [2] 0.71 mi (7:01 / mi) +15m 4:06 / km
Warm up for orienteering.
Orienteering (race) 35:11 [3] 6.1 km (5:46 / km) +145m 5:09 / km

Fort Steilacoom Orienteering event. I ran moderately hard, but the run ended up as a fartlek, because some parts of the course were tricky and therefore slow and other parts were fast. My pulse dipped as low as 140 once, which really brought down the average, versus the mode of around 166-7.

Thursday Jan 23

Cycling (Mt. biking on road) 15:30 [2]
Rode to a cappella and home. 6:00 there and 9:30 home. I slid out and whacked my left knee pretty hard on the concrete.

Monday Jan 20

Orienteering (race) 2:14:00 [3]
Scavenger score-O at Anza-Borrego Desert.

Monday Jan 13

Running - Road / Track (road) 34:10 [1] 3.0 mi (11:23 / mi) +90m 6:28 / km
ahr:121
From the North end of the Sawyer Camp trail, I jogged out and back with Terry. I was/am quite sore from yesterday's run/walk, but it felt good to move my muscles. Some part of my left foot (near the top, middle--in the bone part) hurt for the first 5-10 minutes, but then it felt better.

Sunday Jan 12

Running - Road / Track (road) 1:38:50 [2] 11.97 mi (8:15 / mi) +280m 4:47 / km
ahr:149 max:164 slept:8.0
Ran from Terry's in Millbrae to the Sawyer Camp Trail, South the length of the trail, along Crystal Springs Road, and through Hillsborough to El Camino Real and Oak Grove Ave. My legs were a bit flat and heavy to start with, and I never felt okay the whole run. Just breaking 8 minute miles on the Sawyer Camp Trail was work, and if I ran at all briskly my pulse would approach 160, and my monitor would beep at me. The worst thing about this run was that for the whole time my stomach was uncomfortably full of granola, yoghurt, fried eggs, fish, orange juice and water, and it became really painful as I ran through the hills in Hillsborough. I sat on a bench for a while with the hope of feeling better, but to no avail. I felt so ill that I decided to walk (logged separately) when I hit El Camino. My pulse was in the mid-150s for most of the first hour of the run, exceeding 157 for 8:20. I took the second part more timidly, and my pulse was in the 140s for most of that time.
Running - Road / Track (road) 1:20 [4] 0.24 mi (5:33 / mi)
ahr:173 max:175
Put in a surge while I was running on the Sawyer Camp Trail.
Walking (sidewalk) 45:38 [1] 3.25 mi (14:03 / mi) +177m 7:28 / km
ahr:123
Walked briskly back to Terry's from El Camino Real and Oak Grove Ave. I felt increasingly nauseous toward the end of the walk. I did a couple miles on the flat at a pulse rate of about 115, then up the hill my pulse climbed to 135, then into the 140s.

Saturday Jan 11

Running - Trail / Grass (sand beach) 1:04:00 [1] 5.33 mi (12:00 / mi)
ahr:123 slept:9.0
Ran on the beach at Half Moon Bay with Terry. It was a really pleasant place to run. It was mild and overcast with some breeze, and the waves were big. My heart rate monitor informed me that 1:30 of the run was at or below 108 bpm.

Saturday Jan 4

Running - Trail / Grass (trail) 2:48:10 [2] 25 km (6:44 / km) +1128m 5:29 / km
ahr:158 max:169
Half Ass 25k with Bill. I felt pretty good, but my pulse was about 10 beats per minute higher than it normally would be for the level of work. I attribute the elevated heart rate to:
1. being out of shape
2. being somewhat dehydrated
3. not having run the day before

I felt fine for about 1:45, then started feeling fatigued. For the last 30-45 minutes my legs got increasingly sore (although not apparently any weaker). My right knee mostly felt okay, but it twinged at times going down the mountain--for about the last 25 minutes.
