Saturday Jun 2

Evening Run 37:54 [2] 4.2 mi (9:00 / mi) +40m 5:27 / km
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara
Easy run. Loop 1 17:09, loop 2 17:35, extra 3:10.

Friday Jun 1

Morning Run 33:30 [3] 3.8 mi (8:49 / mi) +40m 5:18 / km
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara
Played a game of "pickup the litter" - and it seems to have had an effect, the final mile was harder than normal. (Trash pickup today, so I don't have to carry it long)

Got me thinking - Orienteering is not like track, road or trail racing in that we are frequently stopping, doing something other than running, and starting again. You can't just get in a running zone.

So - we ought to practice starting and stopping during a run;-)

I believe I've seen Hockey players practice with wind sprints and turns - they have a much shorter distance to cover, but the practice is similar to game conditions.

I know my fatigue was higher today trying to slow, bend over and accelerate again.

Wondering if a stop every 400 meters with a simulated punch and restart would be good...

Thursday May 31

Morning Run 15:30 [2] 1.9 mi (8:09 / mi) +20m 4:54 / km
shoes: Nike Air Terra Humara
Just an estimate on time this morning.

Tuesday May 29

Dance 1:00:00 [1]
Walking 30:00 [1] 2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
With a scheduled, but not-quite-fully remembered car service appointment, I was needing to get downtown today without personal transportation. Found the bus route goes down creek - about a 1 mile walk. Dropped me off at main and exchange - about 4 blocks from where I needed to be. Return trip required a walk to midtown, but set me off a bit closer to Embury.

Realize how much we subsidize the bus - 4 people on the way in, 12 on the way out. (admittedly non-rush traffic, but still not so very many..)

Monday May 28

Note
No running today - just 10 hrs of painting - the Family room (with vaulted ceiling - my part)...

Sunday May 27

Event: ROC - Webster Park - W/Y/O, Sprint

Orienteering race 16:55 [3] *** 2.2 km (7:41 / km) +60m 6:46 / km
spiked:7/8c shoes: New Balance 890
Good but apparently not great run;-) See that I went too close to the pavilion (West) of 3, but it didn't look that open to me (took the trail down. Otherwise good route choices. Guess I need a little more speed and strength - found I was slowing down too many times up some of the hills.

Can't say that I was "attacking" much either - that's gotta be a confidence thing, going too tentative. (wasn't too tired afterwards, so must not have fully exerted myself)

Compared to others, I did this first, most of them did it after an orance 5.5km run...

Orienteering 1:05:20 [1] ** 3.6 km (18:09 / km) +70m 16:32 / km
shoes: New Balance 890
Walked the yellow course with my sister and niece - first day out, and they had just completed the white course on their own. They picked up a couple permanent courses, so I may have hooked them;-)
