Event: ROC - Ski-O at Harriet Hollister Park

Orienteering race (Ski-O) 1:12:18 [4] ** 6.6 km (10:57 / km) +225m 9:22 / km
spiked:12/12c
Enjoyed the afternoon at Harriet Hollister. Not sure of complete results yet, but Jim P was 18 seconds ahead of me, and I was 17 ahead of Pete D. Two others were ahead of our cluster.

I had 70 minutes of effort in me, but didn't feel strong throughout. Reasonably showing for the first Ski-O early in the season, and not much time on the skis these past 3 weeks. See that last year Pete was ahead of me by several minutes in the first meet of the season;-)

Skis took a beating, I'll have to try to epoxy them. Splits coming on when I get more time to put them in.

Red - Splits

Tuesday Jan 1

XC-Skiing 15:00 [2] 1.5 km (10:00 / km)
Just enough time out on the skis after shoveling to refresh the ski action on the legs and setup a bottom layer if we get more good snow later today.

Monday Dec 31

Morning Run (Pavement) 1:28:28 [4] 7.5 mi (11:48 / mi) +275m 6:35 / km
Tried the creek / empire / wetlands / browncroft / creek loop with poles. Was as snowy as I expected, but in the wetlands I think I've found where snow goes when it blows out of your yard. Wasn't expecting the trails to have packed snow underneath. (but found a jump in a trail and realized the kids were sledding on that trail...-) Was worse with just the clay and snow. Poles were very helpful and kept me upright several times.

Came out with a desire to have a good cardio workout, and inserted "safe" in front of that. Ended up walking some hills up and down for footing and conditioning (or rather lack thereof) reasons. Still got 90 minutes in, so that helps the plan to get myself working for a full race.

Splits (close but not precise...):
1st & 2nd mile: 16:45
1/2 mile: 4:18
2.5+ miles: 41:06 (trails)
1/2 mile: 5:48
6th mile: 9:36
7th mile: 10:55

Sunday Dec 30

Cycling 55:00 [3]
Pulled our cycle out from storage to pedal during the first half of the NE-NYG game - what a great game.
