Penfield 5k Challenge - with son and daughter. Looks like I held my son off, but he "took it easy" to run with a couple girls in school... [was at GCC yesterday...] But he's been getting 23 somethings so it would have been close had he run.

Started easy and picked my way through some of the crowd. Faded a bit at 1.5 miles in, but a woman came up with a good pace, and I tacked onto her. There wasa nice hill after the second mile that I was able to use to extend, keep my rate high, and eat up - gained a good 30-40 meters on a couple people near me.

End was odd. I was getting fatigued, but had a reserve, but didn't know how long was left - we seemed to keep doing these corner steps, and this next one seemed to indicate another set of them... but it was the last, and the woman had caught back up to me (after the hill) and said so - I had a nice kick into the finish.

Might have taken some time off if I knew the course, but it was good. First 5k in forever.

[update]
Results online - 21st overall out of 167, 4th in M40-49 out of 23, but I don't think we had an exceptionally fast group of runners - only 5 times under 20 minutes. [Though the winner had a blistering 15:46]
