Orienteering race (Butlers Bush - JWOC trial) 45:17 [4] 3.2 km (14:09 / km) +140m 11:37 / km

Other than control 6 where I wasn't 100% confident with the navigation and control 4 where I got tangled up in a mass of bush lawyer which ripped me to pieces through my clothes, the rest of the course wasn't too bad.
Underfoot it was absolute crap, and where the forest was supposed to be white it was harder to get through than the green forest.
Really pleased with the Navigation, just wish I could have gone a bit faster through it all.
Again though mentally wasn't with it and found myself distracted a bit.
Didn't seem to affect the navigation though, maybe just the aggression and strength of getting through the course.

Orienteering race (Hogsback Ultralong) 1:43:15 [5] 9.3 km (11:06 / km) +492m 8:47 / km

A lot of hesitation on control 1, was a new part of the map and didn't want to mess it up. Wasted a lot of time on control 2, didn't go far enough and spent a while looking around an earlier reentrant, eventually worked it out.
Meghan caught me on the way to control 3 but she overshot the control and I got it and managed to open the gap up again between us, didn't see her again.
Control 4 was really good, had caught Jess. Unfortunately got my foot caught on a branch and smashed my knee into a rather hard, and large rock which left my knee throbbing for the remainder of the course and most of the weekend.
Control 5 went really well too, was clean with the nav and just tried to push through vegetation quickly and extend the gap between me and Jess.
Control 6 and 7 were just silly route choices, cut off the track too early and ended up pushing through more green than originally planned.
Control 8 didn't have much to it, was just straight up the hill.
Control 9 decided I was tired of going straight so took the longer route choice along the track and down the hill. Was able to pick up the pace quite well, with a tail wind down the track. Unfortunately I had wasted a bit too much time getting myself out of some nasty thorn patches.
Last couple controls were just very physically draining going through the marshes and by that point I had fallen too many times, had a nasty ankle roll at #10 and was just wanting to get back.
Wasn't a great result.... mentally I probably wasn't fully with it but there wasn't much I could do about that.
Physically I didn't feel too bad.

Note

Been spending most of my time either packing, finishing mapping assignments and at the hospital.
So haven't done any more runs... also had a little bit of leg pain so don't want to do anything before the trials that might make it worse.

Running 33:00 [3] 6.1 km (5:25 / km) +120m 4:56 / km
ahr:170 max:187 rhr:54 slept:7.5

Was visiting Grandma in hospital, things were getting to be a bit too much and I had to take some time away to clear my head so went for a 30 minute easy run around the domain.
Used trails, grass, road, uphill, downhill... pretty much whatever was in front of me.
Stopped after 30 minutes because it was getting dark, tried to focus on proper breathing and running techniques.
This week is going to be a pretty chill week as trials are on this weekend.
Getting pretty excited for them now.
