Orienteering 59:00 [3] 8.7 km (6:47 / km) +100m 6:25 / km

It seems that this race has come around quite quickly since Ben was hyping it up in the summer. It didn't disappoint, the same terrain as 6 months ago but now with thigh-deep "marshes" to contend with.
Had some decent pace at the start and caught Matt up within 4 controls. Then the big decision could have either joined the train and cruised around for the W or back myself on a solo mission. Marcus also caught Matt up here and so I obviously decided to ditch them both and go on my own route.
This went well for about 1 control before I didn't see one of the northern controls and then tried to navigate to it without having a plan. Nor a compass it seems as I was running backwards and forwards E-W rather than N-S as I imagined. Eventually bailed on this and led to a big banana to the next control once I had consulted the omnipotent magnetic deity. I would have been wise to heed his advice again after this as ended up on a completely different ridge to the one I should have been and had to relocate on another control I didn't intend to go to. Quite smooth from then.
All in all, a quality day out and a reminder about why we love (night) orienteering.
