Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Warm up

Orienteering race 53:11 [5] ***** 7.6 km (7:00 / km)
ahr:152 max:172 spiked:9/14c shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Rank: 3/15, +3'24"
OK Denseln, not so long distance
After a late dinner party I was almost a little bit hung over (even though I didn't drink more than 2 glasses of wine and some) but I guess it mostly due to too little sleep and maybe some dehydration also.

Running felt ok and most of my problems were based on lack of concentration and lack of compass after the 2nd control. Some parts of the map where really hard to read in 1:15k.

Clearings can often cause trouble so I wasn't so pleased to see a big clearing on the first control. I tried to go out on the clearing and look for the big rock. I didn't see it at first and hesitated a bit. On the second leg I choose not to go straight instead of the road on the left and I guess this might have been a little bit slower. The terrain was really soft and it was quite tiresome to go straight. The yellow parts by the control was a little bit strange and I didn't quite get the terrain and went a bit far down the slope, I guess I lost 30" on the control and another 30" on the route choice. On my way to the third control I got snagged on some branches and fell hard on my way over a small clearing and broke my compass. I came a bit out of course but after the initial miss on the leg tried to be a bit more thorough with direction. 4th went, but to 5th I got into some small problems with direction in the last part in to the control zone. No biggie but I guess I lost about 20". 6th and 7th no problem easy terrain and big features to navigate to. I went safe to the 8th control and used the road for most part of the leg. Thought I had the situation under total control when I went in for the punch, but to my frustration, no control! Gah, to far down and another 20-30" :(

The 9th control was easy but then I went out with the wrong direction adn ended up on the wrong side of the marsh. Since I didn't want to attack the control from this direction without my compass I went safe to the big rock and then carefully navigated into the control. In total I probably lost 30-45" on the initial direction problem out of the 9th control. Good and safe orienteering to 11 and 12. Then full control up until the last few meters. Went one contour to high and rounded the wrong hill and then confusion. I was standing in some rocky shit and couldn't really figure how things were keeping together. 3' long minutes later I got the control and a little bit pissed ran to the finish.

A total of 5' of mistakes... a new record for the season. Thursdays 4' almost seems good. I guess the next big thing is Jukola. I will have to try to keep focus a little bit better there.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.5 km (4:27 / km)
shoes: Asics GEL DS Trainer 12

Warm up and jog down before and after the ÖLOL event.

Running trail/forest tempo 28:20 [4] 5.0 km (5:40 / km)
shoes: Asics GEL DS Trainer 12

Spectator at the Lithe VilseÖL-OL event.

I was curious to see who would win the event so I decided to jog to the event and have a look. Tracked the big group on the long first loop and then closely followed Ptr and Martinsson in their battle for first place. Really exciting and a super close finish that came down to the orientering on the second last control (where Martinsson actually visited the wrong control). Super exciting and I miss the good fun of a ÖLOL comp. :)

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Warm up and minimal jog down.

Orienteering race 32:34 [5] *** 4.8 km (6:47 / km)
spiked:8/15c shoes: Inov8 X-Talon

Rank: 3/34, +0'51"
Cloettakampen, middle distance
My worst orienteering performance throughout the spring season. Terrible flow in the orienteering and huge problems keeping direction.

Started off by looking to far away for the first control and passed the correct hill (which was really small) and off to the next one. Realized my mistake and headed back, lost 30". Tried to calm down a bit and ran slowly to 2nd and 3rd.

Tried to speed up to the 4th control but just lost map contact and had to climb a hillside to avoid going through some ones lawn. Went up to early on the hill and fell down on the other side. Realized my mistake and went up and took the control but surely lost atleast 45" on this leg. Tried to remain calm once again but going throught the meadow increased the speed again and I went to far down and was looking on the wrong side of a small nose and had to go through some green shit before I could climb up to the correct nose and adjacent cliff, lost some 15-20".

Ok orienteering from 6 to 9 and then a bit wrong direction going out from 9 but then corrected around the house with garden and through som shit down to the 10 th control where I just couldn't make out the terrain features. Thought I saw the really big rock before I went down the slope, but in retrospect I can see on the gps track that I wasn't even close. Made a few stops and finally after a few sweeps found the control, probably lost 45".

To the 11th control I went down a contour and caught the old track through the light green but looked once again to far in front on a larger rock and headed off, but realized after a while that I was going to far and saw the rocky area on my right side and went back, lost another 45".

To the 13th control I lost some height and knew I was a bit further down the slope than I should have been. I tried to adjust my position and once again thought I passed the huge rock, but once again I misread some other rock. Thought I passed the double rocks but then nothing... continued a bit more and realized I was coming up to the clearing and headed back into the forest. Found the hill and from there the control was easy. Lost just under a 1' on this one.

The last controls posed no problems besides going to far down the slope to the 14th control, lost maybe 10".

Loosing roughly 4' on a middle distance is a total failure. 50% of the legs involved some kind of mistake. Maybe I was a bit tired in the evening after a full work day or my mind just wandered away. I really don't know. One thing is for sure. I seldom do good races in the evenings. On the positive side is that running feels better and better.

Running long 58:17 [3] 11.85 km (4:55 / km)
ahr:140 max:154 shoes: Asics GEL DS Trainer 12

Running to and from Johannelund with a bit of detours

Orienteering tempo 18:33 [4] * 3.4 km (5:27 / km)
ahr:151 max:172 spiked:12/12c shoes: Asics GEL DS Trainer 12

Ran an old sprint course from 2008-01-26 in Johannelund. It had been raining shortly before the race which led to problems already to the first control. I couldn't get up the slippery bare rock slope and had to give my attempt up and go down again and ran the long way up through the forest where the grip was better. According to the route I lost around 30". After that no problems tried a few route choices that I didn't choose last time and some of them seemed a little bit better. Couldn't really push that hard due to pain in my neck (nackspärr) but the good thing is that I didn't feel especially tired during the run or afterwards. I think my current shape is way better than the last time i tried to run this course.

Old time: 18'42" (AB won with an time of 17'41")

My splits: 9'36", 8'57"
