Note
(rest day)

Much needed rest today. Lots of aches and pains to recover from. Not sure when I'm going to start back and what the next focus will be. Knee and hammy needs some TLC.

Orienteering 2:13:37 [3] 16.72 km (7:59 / km) +401m 7:08 / km
ahr:139 max:159

After spending a great nights sleep in the best hotel ever, I decided to bail on today’s race. A sore eye and a very sore hamstrings on top of fatigue and the thought of 12ks made the decision simple. I did decide to jog the course having got an earlier start time nearer Kendal’s start. Best thing I did. The course though grueling, was fantastic, as was the terrain. When the big guns came past I just enjoyed the speed they traveled. Nice not to try and tag on for a couple of legs.
Going to take it very easy this week. Right hammy feels destroyed. (From the run in on first sprint. Felt it ping.)
Compression socks have helped this weekend. Especially between sprints yesterday.

Note

Terrible night's sleep. Cannot wait to have breakfast. Ravenous all night for some reason.

Note

Summary so far.... I could be decent at middle and sprint over M45. Only 3rd middle and 3rd and 4th Sprint. Still got that obligatory fuck up on a crucial control. Usually an easy one. But I've had some Ok runs especially in the Sprint since the summer. On another day I'd be close to Eric Bone. Who, between himself and Neils are the standard. The long is the main event obviously, but those two and many others are streets ahead of me in that discipline. Not expecting much tomorrow but excited for the terrain. Even if its technically beyond me by the looks of it.
Running wise I felt awful today. Slept two hours between races. The hotel in Ann Arbor has fortunately thrown us a boob instead of a thumb so tonight should be a much better sleep.

Orienteering 17:13 [3] 3.64 km (4:44 / km) +14m 4:39 / km
ahr:157 max:169

Generally Ok until 15. This was under a bridge. I went everywhere but under. Over 1min lost.
Lost 15 secs at 6 ran to Bandstand type structure instead of circular patio.

1 min 20ish 8th. 3:15 down on Ryzikov. 5th was achievable here.
12 PM

Orienteering 20:20 [3] 3.68 km (5:32 / km) +23m 5:22 / km
ahr:161 max:173

Nailed everything here. the problem came two fold. On 6 I caught my eye on a branch. (still an issue now). Never really recovered. Left eye watered non stop. At 15 I misread the control code. Hit 72 but looked for 78. Ran around like a chicken with his head cut off for over a minute before I double checked. Cost me dearly.
Time lost....no eye deer. 11th Ryzhkov beat me by 5 mins.

Orienteering 40:26 [3] 7.55 km (5:21 / km) +38m 5:13 / km
ahr:158 max:171

One word.....disappointing.
This was set up for me to have a good run (my type of terrain), but it was over in the first 4 controls. Top 3.... no chance but a 7th place run should have been achievable. I felt very slow until 5 also. Breakfast was present and I gave it 4 hours. After 5 I felt great and hit everything ok.
The Breakdown...
1. poor route choice 30secs
2. Horrific mistake not helped by poor eyesight. Failed to pick up buildings and park benches on map. 3mins. (This was by far the easiest leg)
4. I hit the path to the left by 20m. I could sense it, but gambled to the right and realised at the path junction. 45secs maybe more.
10. Poor route choice. Hit the chain link fence and ran right to the roundabout. Should've gone left towards the playing fields. 1min maybe more.

Total lost=5mins 15secs.
10th place. Winner Sergei Ryzhkov 11mins 30secs ahead.

Travel Day. South Bend. Eventful getting here. No plane cos it hit a bird. Then had to change a tyre before take off. Did a relocation exercise with Kendal at Baugo Creek. She did really well, so I'm less worried about her tomorrow. Staying next to Notre Dame so we'll have a gander round the campus in the morn. First impressions of the place aren't great. Just realisd on Saturday we drive away from Ann Arbor before we go there and I have a late start.
4 PM

Running 20:38 [3] 4.86 km (4:15 / km) +8m 4:13 / km
ahr:139 max:150

Easy shake out from the hotel. Hammy's still sore from the RDL's on Wednesday. Weather here is mint but.....chest is a little tight from the cool air.

Strength & Conditioning 15:00 [3]

Core and legs in the gym. Hamstrings already screaming after RDL's. may have overcooked it slightly.
10 AM

Running 33:03 [3] 7.1 km (4:39 / km) +2m 4:39 / km
ahr:130 max:156

Strides. Nice out. Took the racing flats out for a spin. Felt like Jay Leno dusting off one of his antique cars.
