(rest day)

Left side extremely tight today. Spent a bit of time on the foam roller.

Note

First decent sleep in a week last night. It’s been desperate this week. Felt great this morning.
9 AM

Running 12:16 [3] 1.97 km (6:14 / km) +44m 5:36 / km
ahr:128 max:144

Warm up. Decided to run early as I was cutting it fine for Newark otherwise. Chatted to Jordan at the start who in informed me I’d enjoy it. When his answer to “so there’s loads of paths?” was “not really”, I wasn’t that overly enthused.

Orienteering 1:19:38 [3] 10.77 km (7:24 / km) +424m 6:11 / km
ahr:146 max:163

Smashed this. Not seen the results yet, but for once I didn’t have a 5min+ error. Had a couple 30sec bobbles. Notably 4 where I found a random control kite lying on the floor on the approach. No SI stuff attached so left it at 63. 5 was another small error as was 8 funnily. I couldn’t find the water tower on the map for the longest time. Strange thing about this race was my HR never felt close to 158. I just trundled along. Sometimes spending way too much time taking in the map. Maybe that’s a good thing. Any faster and things probably would have unraveled.
It’s not often I’m happy with the navigation and disappointed with the speed.
NB. Interested to see who went straight and who went left through the start from 6-7.

Orienteering 36:28 [3] 4.42 km (8:15 / km) +128m 7:12 / km
ahr:146 max:162

In typical fashion I had one major gaff. This was 3. Probably 6-7 mins. I could see it. But because I was 10m above it I wasn’t prepared to commit to it. I was certain I was on the right level of crags. After that I didn’t jog but I knew I'd blown it.
4 PM

Orienteering 19:18 [3] 3.26 km (5:55 / km) +55m 5:27 / km
ahr:145 max:161

This was terrible from the start. After 2 controls lost over a 1min. In total I lost over 3mins. Results say 30srcs but for once that’s definitely wrong. Jordan said it’d be frustrating and I wasn’t disappointed. Still enjoyed it. Don’t get to sprint everyday.

First taste of Harriman and it was eye opening. I paid $20 for the pleasure and feel like I got a bargain as I must have easily seen $60 of the park. I was out a lot longer than anticipated.

Running 31:35 [3] 6.62 km (4:46 / km)
ahr:132 max:144

Evening shakeout to see what the damage has been done from this weeks festivities. Felt pretty crappy. DOMS will be traveling with me tomorrow. After the first 1K I could feel all sorts of things going on in my thighs. I was ravenous by the end and I was out for 30mins. The positive? I can safely break wind after four very long days.

Note
(sick)

More of the same. No sleep. Took Eadie 5 days to get over. Hopefully that won't be the case this time.
