Easy around Bousdale while England batted. Couldn't bare to watch. Got back for the Super Over. Amazing stuff.

Note

Like a bit of industrial archeology. Been fascinated by the abundance of bomb shelters everywhere. Nearly every rural property has their own. Then in the dunes I noticed deep gullies in zig zag formation that I never noticed while racing. These were obviously trenches. Not sure if they saw action (The Battle of More took place near here in the last days of WWII) or if they were planned defenses against NATO in the Cold War. They were situated high on the dunes on the sea facing side.

Long day out in Parnu, Estonia today with the family. Managed to squeeze in a run at the end of the day back at Lilaste (on yesterday's map). Did a little control picking. Bewt of an evening. Ran the last half km back on the beach. This place is stunning. Just got to get rid of the graffiti and give some of the cities a lick of paint. I'm sure it'd make the locals smile wider. It's done wonders in Estonia. I'd like to hope I'd come back someday. Travel Day tomorrow.

Excellent week. Top terrain.

WMOC Long B Final. Probably close to 8 mins of mistakes. The biggest being 3 mins at number 6. Total balls up. Missed a path and ran cluelessly into oblivion. Number 2 wasn't too good either. But I gained on the Italian infront only to be caught by him at 6. Should have won this race easily but did the usual nonsense of checking every control on the way to mine. Route choice to 12 was exceptionally poor around the lake. Should have gone north to the main track. Much, much quicker.
Negative post but some of my navigation and relocations were really positive.
2mins down on winner. 4th/82.

Note

Estonia for the day. Beautiful beaches (Latvia's aren't bad either). No Amber. Got the feeling Estonian's are a bit more sociable. Also think Estonia has stricter alcohol laws by the abundance of alcohol retailers on the Latvian side of the border. One of which was splendidly named "Super Alko". Splendid.
Looks like tomorrow's going to be a quiet run in the woods for me. I'm one of the last people out of 3,500 to start tomorrow.

Model Event. Amazing terrain. Hit one out 8 controls dead on......still progress. Unbelievably quick.
Dad and me were the first there. Didn't see anyone out there. Much better than having hundreds of people deliberating with each other at all the control sites.

Middle B Final. 15th/84
Generally a very good run for me. 4:40mins of mistakes.
1:30 at 2.
2:30 at 8. This was the traditional big error I always make. Bearing took me 50m to the right. Couldn't locate it and milled about. Went to relocate at the ride and on the way stumbled on it. Probably the easiest control on the course.
20secs at 9. 50m to the left. This is where I think Vladimir G. Caught me (not sure if it's him).
20secs on 10. Realizing I was now 2mins down on him I tried to put some distance between us over the last 6 controls. Not before not seeing a ride and bailing off to another random control.
Missed qualifying by 3 places. (30secs) Winner ran in 25:30.
Didn't hit my aims, but very positive this. Bring on Scottish 6 Days.

Note

I walked to the arena from the station. Approx 5-6k. On the way I was picked up by 3 lads and 4 stunning women. I jumped in thanked them and then found out they were all from Lithuania, some were on the national team and all of them were deaf. They signed the entire time and texted with me. The silence was absolute gold. I'll never forget those 10 mins.
12 PM

Running 56:38 [3] 9.57 km (5:55 / km) +49m 5:46 / km
ahr:152 max:171

Disappointing, but good day.....for me. Here's the breakdown.
Start to 1...flipped over the map and immediately thought..."holyshit this is a piece of art." The paper felt lush, the course was in your face, the map was exquisite. Then I ran and within 3 mins I was confronted by a 70 year old Swede demanding to know where he was. That was really annoying. Then I bounced about randomly near/in the control circle for a min. (This was the norm for maybe a third of the course.) 2mins
#2 Saw the control. Knew it was mine.....but had to check out another close by. 1:30
Everything else was messy but good for me. THEN a train of about 10 formed from 10 onwards. (At 11 another swede demanded to know what age group I was....really annoying behaviour). At 14 the train over ran the control. Myself and another dived in and got it. I then followed my co-conspirator on to 15. But he took us to the wrong control. I knew where we were. Backed up 50m but it was still the wrong one. Turns out 5mins later I was less than 10m away. The rest is history. Missed the cut by probably 2mins. But for me this was good for the terrain. I was in total contact with the map except for 15. Which I just blew up on.

Note
(rest day)

Walked the Model Middle. I think I was the only person not to receive a map for this in their event bag. Pretty annoying so I took a pic from a Finns map on my phone and walked it.
This is going to be a real test for me tomorrow. Fast but very technical. I think they'll be less paths on the map tomorrow.
Next problem is going to be getting there. No parking passes were for sale when I entered. Now they've all sold out. Planning on walking 5k to the event arena.
Also see yesterday's sprint has been voided even though it didn't affect anyone on our course (if it did then your eyesight must be incredible as I couldn't pick that route out over tea let alone running at speed). Strange.
