Note

Entered The Masters event. Had no intention of doing this even before I was mentally scarred by BAOC. But this is the best I've felt for years even if the watch and the times put in tell me totally different. No niggles at all. So when Paw Paw said "go, I'll take care of the kids" I've entered. Even if it's not a good experience I can visit my mate in Boston.

Running 44:15 [3] 8.06 km (5:30 / km) +34m 5:23 / km
ahr:158 max:179

Easy on valley floor. HR still crazy. Chilly -2C when I started. But nothing compared to tomorrow........
3 PM

Running 47:15 [3] 9.69 km (4:53 / km) +75m 4:42 / km
ahr:156 max:183

HR is really odd here. Easy running and HR hits the 170's. Push it and it goes into the correct-ish zone.
This run was supposed to be Zone 2, Zone 4, Zone 2. Actual.....Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4/5?? I really pushed valley floor. I was totally knackered and never approached 161 BPM until the last 3 secs. Then on the 15 minute cool down I was close to 180 BPM. Just don't get it.
Felt great despite the effort put in to not hit the targets asked.

Strength & Conditioning 50:00 [3]

Rather than be a total loser, (I ran out of paint today) I dug out the TRX from the cellar. Didn't do anything that'll give me DOMS tomorrow though.
Did take a light stroll with my father-in-law this morning from Ames HydroPlant (Tesla's first AC electric power plant in the world) up to the Sunshine Mtn. East Ridge Trailhead. I've got an eye on running this next week, but conditions must be perfect. The summit is supposed to be very sketchy.

ahr:150 max:176

Loved this evenings run. No targets, no stress, no niggles. Just a nice cool evening jog with a bit of Alpenglow thrown in. The mornings have been bitter (-4C), but the evenings are great to get out on the trails. Town Park to Society Turn on the Valley Floor.

(rest day)

Sore early morning. Went to Durango to watch Linnea (Morten Jorgenson's cousin) play......first time all season she didn't play a minute....she was pissed! But every cloud has a silver lining. I was charged $10 to watch an NCAA match and I got all I could eat wings and 3....yes 3 beers......and a cuzzie. At an NCAA game? Don't know how that was allowed, but it was a result for $10. No target races on the horizon so just looking forward to snow now.

Note

After Chatting to Timmy I thought I'd look up 2nd place as he said he'd pushed him hard but never raced against him. Turns out Ryan Becker (2nd) was 12th in The US Mt. Champs Greg Alswede ran in last week. I recognised him from last night. He was cooking out the back of his car while Eadie had Footie in Town Park. The life of an elite athlete.
8 AM

Running race 2:03:42 [3] 20.58 km (6:01 / km) +832m 5:00 / km
ahr:150 max:184

Deep Creek Trail 1/2. Started at the airport. Finished on Oak St. Felt cold, but great this morning. Aim was sub 2 hours. Didn't achieve this, but still happy to get close. Settled into 11th place for the first 4 miles behind Kelly Wolf (First Female). She happens to be Eadie's ninja coach. We caught 9th place at the refreshments and he latched onto me for the next 7miles. Cruised the whole course really. I never put myself into total pain at any point. Every downhill I tested the water to see if I could dump the lad behind. I knew it was going to happen on the last 2 mile decent as I repeatedly put distance on the downs before he'd work back to me. The annoying thing was Kelly couldn't be caught. In fact she must smash descents. She put 2 mins on me.
Almost any other year and I'd have been close to a top 3 finish. Not this year....nowhere near. 10th, 5 time winner of Imogene Pass Run, Timmy Parr won knocking 10 mins off the course record in 1:37. He took time to chat to me afterwards. Really nice lad.
Amazing course.
