Running race 4:27:57 [5] 42.09 km (6:22 / km) +2888m 4:44 / km

Main goal going into this was a top 10, so missed out on that unfortunately.
Started out staying with the lead group of 7 guys for the first 5km or so. Some pretty fast kms to start off! But felt good, was more comfortable than most of them on the flats.
Then once the climbing began I dropped off a bit and hung in 7th for a while and then 8th at halfway. Felt alright, and was thinking I can maybe catch a few guys if I'm still feeling good at the end. But one thing I later realised is that guys are waaaay better at pacing themselves here compared to SA...not a single guy crashed and finished badly. Everyone knows what they're doing.
After halfway, started to struggle a bit more and from about 27km onwards it was fairly rough going as the altitude (above 2000m from here onwards) was hitting me hard. So just tried to keep moving and find a rhythm..
Held it together alright (even got in a sub 4 km :p) until the sadistic climb thrown in for the 40th and 41st km. Calves were having none of it and started to cramp a lot so basically had to walk the last 2km.
Overall, a great experience. Loved the start through the streets with the whole town supporting and then the support along the route was awesome. And having 19(!!!) aid stations on route was amazing... filled with the best stuff. SA races take note...
Would've liked to have run a bit better but the reality is the altitude is a big factor unless I'm able to do some altitude training for an extended period of time. Also could have gone into this race a bit more fresh, but didn't want to sacrifice some other cool runs I did last week.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

2km or so warming up

2km down hill walk to the cable car... Absolutely brutal after the race (no idea of pace but just adding the distance for it...)

Running 27:16 [3] 5.31 km (5:08 / km) +317m 3:57 / km

Shakeout and some strides before the race. Adductor a bit tight but everything else feeling good

Running 31:19 [3] 5.54 km (5:39 / km) +366m 4:15 / km

Short one in Brixen. Checking out a bit of the race route. My perfect sort of single tracks here... 7th Heaven. Runnable with the odd technical bits.
And made even better by having a bit of rain and my first run in sub 30 degrees in a week :')

Running 9:43 [4] 3.02 km (3:13 / km) +21m 3:07 / km

3km progression: 3:19, 12, 09
It's quite sad that that was basically as fast as I could go... Just no speed at the moment. Dont think I could do a sub 3 km right now..
Need to be more disciplined with doing strides and things more often to stay "fast" since I lose that ability so quickly doing longer, slower stuff. Not that it's directly relevant to the races I'm doing, but I always feel better from it.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Running 23:34 [2] 5.07 km (4:39 / km) +30m 4:31 / km

Easy jog with 6 x strides. Thought this would feel awful but felt alright.
Also did a 2h hike this afternoon

Running 4:35:52 [3] 31.71 km (8:42 / km) +2383m 6:19 / km

A long day out with my most elevation gain ever.
Started from the lake (100m or so) and climbed directly up to Cima Telegrafo peak at 2200m over 10km or so. Pretty relentless climb! Definitely underestimated how long 2000m+ would be. Tried to keep the effort fairly decent but blisters on my heel were quite a nuisance and was difficult to keep pace over the second 5km on the more technical part.
Stopped for a drink and snack at the restaurant at the top.
After that, headed along the ridgeline for 5km or so. Pretty awesome section. Couldn't see any of the amazing views because visibility was a solid 20m or so up there... But didn't really mind because I just dig those conditions.
From there on started to get lost a bit but eventually found my planned path. But then missed a turn and only realised once I had dropped quite a bit and wasn't keen to slog back up, so just decided to wing it and find a way down the mountain. Seemed pretty easy in my head but got hopelessly lost a few times... Just kept hitting private property sections and not knowing where to go from there. Eventually got some help from a German guy (and some much needed water) and found my way down.
Loooong time on the legs but never really felt tired apart from the last 30mins or so (understandable given I'd run out of food a few hours before).
