Orienteering race 40:31 [5] 3.21 mi (12:37 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 2 (red)

Night-O at McKaig. Kevin came along. Warmer than last year.

Started on Red. A little trouble getting to 6; the turns in the trails did not match the brand new map. Took a bad line to 12, ended up 125m north before having to come back south. The rest of the course went smoothly enough. The terrain was made extra tough by the thick coating of leaves. Everything was slick despite the lack of moisture - I probably fell 10 times, mostly on the steep bits.

Orienteering race 38:53 [5] 2.79 mi (13:56 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 2 (red)

Green course was next. Similar distance to red, but I spent very little time on trail, so I covered less ground. I ran into the same issue with the same mysterious bend in trail between 7 and 8 (same leg as red) but I knew how to handle it and did much better. 10 to 11 was terrible, as I thought I was going to 14 (I actually punched it, the closest I've come to a MP). Would have been faster to take the trail around to the south. I had trouble finding 17, as the rootstock symbol on the map was obscured and it took about a minute plus to sort out. The rest went well, but I was rather tired.

This was another fun event! I'd love to do one in daylight here, especially a summer sprint race.
