Adventure Racing 10:51:32 [3] 60.25 mi (10:49 / mi)

AB40!

In the future, I will consider all ARs without teammate changes to be subpar.

Started with abiperk and Karyn. Bike on mostly roads with some singletrack. Some good navigational choices on the way to the packraft. Doughnuts at the TA. Paddle was nice, but my single was incredibly slow compared to my teammates double. Snagged some waypoints and enjoyed the journey to the takeout.

TA had bagel sandwiches. My sausage, egg, and cheese was the best that I've ever eaten. New teammates here - Joe and Sony. Motored to a Civil War reenactment and then over a spectacular bridge, eventually to FDR for a foot-o. Lots of fun on this surprisingly challenging section. The heat was incredibly on the overgrown golf course. I felt like my insides were baking. We finished quickly and I had a long time to rest in the shade but my body never really recovered. Seamus also ate my hoagie, so I'll blame him for the suffering. Cold drinks and ice here.

New teammates again - Kate Matthews and Sony. We worked our way to an old cemetery where we crossed paths with the other teams. Lots of fun biking around. The sun had receded and it was getting cooler, but I could not get my body to stop overheating. I had stopped sweating, but I couldn't get enough salt and water in. We biked north to the Belmont just as the rains began pouring down. Even the coolness here wasn't helping. My head, throat and stomach were shot. I was struggling to navigate efficiently with my body revolting. We ran into the other two teams fixing a flat, and we agreed to ride together for a short bit. I spent most of the conversation retching while trying to not lose my lunch. We rode downhill on pavement for about a mile, and I got gapped by at least a minute here. Nicki was joining the party at the next road, and I was more than happy to let her take my place so I could get a ride from Brian to the TA. I felt a good bit better over the next hour, but the idea of trekking to the finish with the team was overridden by the idea of just heading home before Noah's bedtime. I felt pretty good about that choice - no point in suffering that much during a day of fun.

Lots of great fun racing with new people. Just hoping that the next AR birthday is in the winter ;)!

Ride from home before a busy day. Not too bad. Beautiful day.

Run at Harmony Hill. I need to get better about running again. This was more difficult that I would like, especially the final 3 miles.

Had planned on orienteering today, but I work up with a super sore glute. I didn't plan on running this long, but running didn't exacerbate anything so I kept going. A bit stiff afterwards.
