Orienteering race (SA -- Wesley Clover) 52:12 [0] 5.94 km (8:47 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

I had limited time today, so planned to go with a nice slow pace in favour of improved accuracy to hopefully prevent major time wasting, and it would be an interesting experiment to see how much more accurate I could be at a slower speed. But then I punched the start, and *poof* the plan vanished into the woods and my legs started running after it and I had no choice but to go along for the ride.

Overall happy with the run, but definitely some mistakes. Big mistake on 13, where partway through the leg I noticed I didn't have the map oriented correctly and ended up off base and confused. Took a while to figure myself out, which is silly because I was at a campground road, not the middle of the Barrens or something! Also a notable mistake to 10; thought I had passed through some of the yellow, but GPS track says I was really short.

Saw five deer. Much better than the five ticks on Thursday.

New shoe tying method held well today. Used the knot at the link that follows, then tied another basic knot, then tucked the bows and ends under the cross laces. One shoe's laces ended the race just as they had begun. The other shoe's laces had mostly untucked themselves, but the knot itself was still solid, although in a longer outing I wouldn't be sure it would have held up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ddvP4dI5K0
