shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

New shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250. My first pair of trail running shoes.

Test drove them today for a trail run/walk at March Highlands.

Quite a nice change from the old beat up generic running shoes I've used for o-/trail-running so far. Seem to have good grip on rock and such, and no rolled ankles (yet). There were a couple of moments where I think an ankle roll may well have happened had I been wearing my old running shoes with the cushy heel.

Really liked the feel of them for running. However, for walking the last 1.5 kms, they didn't feel right for walking -- the foot angle felt weird.

As for the trails: What a great place for trail running! Infinitely more interesting and fun than road running. Followed Beartree, Fast Out, North Dogsled, PWT, Bailout, IMBA, North Dogsled, then ran out of steam so figured it would be safer to stop running and walk the rest of the way, Rockhopper west leg back to the car (excluded that last walking part from log stats).

Compared to road running, found my upper body was a lot more comfortable, didn't get more and more tense as time went on, presumably due to constantly shifting around to adjust for the footing, inclines, tight turns etc.

8 or 9 x (5 min run, 1 min walk), total 40 or 45 minutes running. Not quite sure due to stopping to chat with a mountain biking family and letting them get ahead (small kids = frequent stops) which put me out of sync with the watch for a bit. Caught up to them again at PWT junction where we parted ways.

Cranked up the run interval today to a whole entire 5 minutes.

Tomorrow, ultra marathon! [sarcasm]

Felt good, actually. Rewarding to see progress. Only a few months ago, running a minute left me hugely out of breath.

Watch reported these personal bests today:
- Fastest 1k = 5:07
- Fastest mile = 8:50
- Fastest 5k = 29:01

5 x (5 minute run, 1 minute walk), total 25 minutes running.

First time running in these shoes as my other ones are really o-grungy. Google tells me these are suitable for road-running so will continue to use them.
