Orienteering 2:14:03 [4] 11.89 km (11:16 / km)

Winter Classic event around Colonial knob. Had a bit of a shocker overall with some poor navigation and bad route choices, so a little disappointed. First 20 minutes were up a big hill, sore lower calves came back and ankle was sore too but didn't matter too much because I were walking up a steep track with Magnus and John. Then spent about the next hour in some fairly dense bush during which I made maybe 6 notable navigation mistakes, including getting stuck in a valley of vines, and didn't get much of a chance to run properly due to vegetation. for the rest of the course my navigation was fine, although I still made some poor route choices. Then with maybe 4 km to go I slipped sideways when the pine needles slide down the hill I was going along, and fell directly on a jutting out rock/root with my thigh. This gave me a dead leg for about 5 minutes and made it really painful to run much more than a jog. This was pretty annoying because I didn't feel lacking in energy and probably could have caught up to Magnus who was only 3 minutes ahead by the end.

Running 19:20 [3] 5.0 km (3:52 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Porirua parkrun. First km was pretty good (about 3:40), felt fairly bad for the rest of it though and was a bit surprised my time was only 19:20 and not longer.

Running 16:03 [2] 2.86 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Warm up running from oriental to Frank Kitts for orienteering sprint training. Then the opposite back.

Orienteering 20:07 [3] 4.0 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Orienteering sprint training around the water front. It was very wet and grey so at times it was a little hard to read the map accurately. Also the slick wet bricks and wood meant I couldn't run very fast in a number of places. Made two small mistakes first turning one block too soon and secondly, running to a similar set of stairs right by the intended set of stairs. Running wise felt good, slightly tired on a couple of the long legs towards the end.

Tuesday Aug 29 #

Running 1:00:00 [3] 7.2 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Harriers. 30 minutes of drills then 30 minutes of running 2 km at about 75% pace followed by a 2 minute active recovery then 12 x 200 m stride outs with active recovery back to the start, then warm down. Felt good, left leg was threatening to be sore but never really was.

Monday Aug 28 #

Running 15:42 [2] 3.57 km (4:24 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Easy run along concrete, not really feeling though, left outside of calf still a cause for grief. First run with new shoes too, I was a little concerned about sizing but they felt good, my only criticism is that they make an annoying clack when they hit the ground.
