Orienteering 39:02 [3] 7.49 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 270

Orienteering in England near Fyfield. It was quite cold and slightly windy and kept on changing between being too cold and too hot. It was a bit hard without a compass (don't have a northern hemisphere one) so my bearings were quite wonky. I was very confused for the first 2 controls but didn't take too long all things considered. The fields we were running in were quite different from ones in nz as they were very uneven and lumpy. Navigation wise I did fairly well being able to pick out the rocks and bushes accurately, the only part I really struggled with (aside from the start) was a section towards the end in a field with almost no features visible and with no compass being able to find a control on a very low earth bank.

Running 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Race Ultra 270

Warmup/down at orienteering while going to/from start/finish.

Running 37:00 [2] 4.12 km (8:59 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Easy run along flat in Frome. Fairly muddy in places and the air was quite cold on my hands and ears.

Orienteering 38:50 [3] 4.3 km (9:02 / km)

Summer 'sprint' orienteering on Mt Vic, so pretty hilly and steep, the weather was too hot and sunny. Navigation wise I went alright. I made a mistake going to number 3 and got caught on the wrong passage through dense scrub. Aside from maybe a bad route or two the only other mistake was heading to the last control I accidentally followed an old track instead of the one I wanted. Running wise I was pretty poor, I felt out of breath quite quickly and about halfway through my calves became really sore (I'd noticed one was a little sore earlier in the day). I also wore my old shoes which had almost zero grip on the steep bits (most of it) and let me feel sharp stones and roots too much. I enjoyed the maze at the end we had lots though.

Running 11:03 [4] 3.0 km (3:41 / km)
shoes: Inov8 F-lite

Did a 3 km time trial, just along the footpath towards Wadestown and back. Thought I might be able to do 10:30 but was a fair way off even though I felt pretty fast when running.
