Butler's Bush OY.
Didn't like the start straight into marshy stuff, and Amelia caught me before the forest. I messed up the end as well, going too far left. I should probably have stayed on the RHS of the river. 2,3,4 were slow because the forest was full of dead trees everywhere, despite it being white on the map. Went through the green to 5 which was nice open pine forest... saw Amelia here, so pushed up the hill to try get in front, and kept my line ignoring the other lady looking too early. 7,8,9,10 were all fine. I was in front of Amelia and convinced she was going to come flying past which happened at 11. From there it was just running down, along, up, down which I didn't like all that much. The last control was mean.

Hogsback ultralong. I really enjoyed this race. I had been a bit worried leading in since I had been feeling pretty average all week and was coughing loads the night before.
Started pretty slowly and had to remind myself it was a race on the way to 1. Didn't have the best route, and had a rough introduction to the green... took the track to 2 and got it fine, but then lost 4 minutes on each of 3 and 4, mistaking the same re-entrant as two different streams... 5 went pretty well, though the climb was tough. Immy caught me here, and I was with her to 6. 7 I think I had a good route choice, but struggled with the running, and couldn't find the track in the bush, so lost time there and went to the wrong hill losing more time. 8 was fine, 9 I ran to wrong trees and didn't pay enough attention to my compass. I was stupid on 10 taking a straightish route which meant I had to contour through bush and steep stuff, should have taken the hill. 11 I changed my route because I didn't like the look of the canyon so went back a bit, but it wasn't too bad. The last few were just a struggle to keep going and push through the tussock.
Overall I am a bit disappointed with parts of my race, but I really enjoyed it and there are a few areas I think I did well.
Hurt my L knee on the way down the hill to 6, landing awkwardly on it. It was alright for a bit, but was sore when I was running to 9 and for bits through the rest of the race. It was quite sore after finishing, but put antiflamme on and it was okay later.

Wednesday May 2 #

Biking 45:00 [3]

To uni, into town then home. Cheated by catching the train up the hill home... still have runny nose and screwed up breathing when I try to go fast :(

Tuesday May 1 #

Running 1:00:00 [4] 7.1 km (8:27 / km)
shoes: Mizuno connect (white)

Harriers - warm up, drills then 400's.
Chris set us 10 x 400, but I figured I'd aim at doing 8. I was slow from the beginning, and started feeling bad after the 6th, so stopped there and just jogged until the others were done. Guess I'm not as recovered from the cold as I thought. Will take the rest of the week pretty easy before the ultralong at the weekend.

Monday Apr 30 #

Biking 54:00 [3]
